But why can we trade resources then, and could even before he founded Kalkutta? Doesn't that require a connection between our capitals?

No the requirements for trading resources are different. I will have a look at those later

Mansa Musa returned from his pilgramage the beach and we're rolling again
This is a bit tense, maybe: ![]() Also, fingers crossed for the fight with that barb galley Don't know if I find wine vs marble fair. To be honest, in this game I don't feel like I have the spare hammers to produce much in the way of failgold. And if Plemo gets MoM and TGL on top of everything, could that really skew the game any further? I'm pretty sure however that I'm a far ways from Monarchy yet, so don't appreciate that wine much atm. Will we fight here? Sooner or later sure, but I think it can be sustainable for a while at least. Plemo seems happy to press his advantage peacefully, and not risk a tilt. Meanwhile on the other jungle island Ari settled his city in my face, risking a tilt. However I will be able to do something maybe in some 12-15 turns, no earlier, and if he pays attention much later. . ![]() Here we go, the tool to turn this game around. Hopefully it generates lots of spreads. So far we've been lucky with domestic spreads, but internationally there have not been any. 3rd in GNP at 0% doesn't sound so bad. It's just the neighbourhood...
It's turn 100 101 102!
I've been feeling a bit lonely here, and even switched reporting from "we" to "I" (Rusten, still reading?). Hopefully it's still entertaining in a way, and you all are not fed up with the whining.Anyway, little is happening from turn to turn. Again, patience is the virtue that is required here. What else to do but give a t100 empire overview. ![]() here it is, bit much stretched across the seas, but everybody's like that in PB90. Home island ![]() The library was whipped for 1 pop t102, in order to start researching MC the turn after. Even with terraces between Meißen and Dresden the foodis really quite low. By now I have cottaged the last riverside plains tile, but that's more food deficit, and after that there are no further profitable tiles. The next build is then the lighthouse, and I guess after all this is the best place for Moai. I should also try to generate some Ind failgold here. Together with the forge build that should keep the city busy for the next 25 or so turns. ![]() My big gamble. A 5 gpt shrine is a bad investment of a great person. So far there have been no further spreads, but we keep hoping. I guess with how the map is set up, delaying contact with most players, spreads are overall slower, but I do have connections with 5 players so there should be some spreads in the near future if our luck normalizes. The city gets priority for the moment to grow tall. It will whip a forgeand then go to HC. Once there I want to run prophets again, although probably the bulk of GPP should come during the GA. Southern Saxony ![]() Probably our best city long term (and short term if not counting the palace). Cottaging in this area is progressing nicely. I'm keeping the forests for now for if I ever want something big, as this city seems like the best bet for that. The scientists should enable an eventual GA. In fact they might come early, with how slowly tech progresses (for everybody but Plemo) ![]() Also whipped the library t102. Very nice commerce short term, long term the city lacks food and decent tiles to grow on. Will eventually need a lighthouse, or just continue doing low ceiling whip cycles with 3-4 food surplus. ![]() Building the galley replacement. Not sure what to do with this city; probably a mediocre commerce spot that will get a lighthouse. Too few hills and too little food for a true hammer city. The North ![]() By now we have 3 units at 1 turn from completion, trying to save money. A lighthouse hasn't really seemed worth it so far, as I did a number of short cycle whips during the confrontation with the Aztecs, from when the city is yet recovering. Really the one place that would really benefit from religious happy, but ofcourse not worth the revolt. ![]() Saxony's greatest success so far, the city that we aquired peacefully (mostly). With just the cowsit is also a bit short on food, but thankfullly Ari built us the lighthouse in advance so it can grow smoothly. The plains cottage, while nice, will only be worked when at HC. Leper Colony ![]() Still hard to tell if this was an error, but at least Plemo seems to respect the claim, for now at least. After MC we'll get IW and then the city can start being productive. I lucked out with the pig in the fog (although my educated guess was that something should be there), but we need a border pop, and the terrace without the pig in particular is horrendously slow. So a religion spread would be nice (any religion tbh, although our own would of course be nice). Any questions or advice? I'll follow up with some foreign outlook.
Any thoughts about building missionaries and send them to civs without religion (if any available)?

I don't have Meditation (and it spoils the Astro bulb, right?), and as you've seen it'S still a while to go until the GA for OR. Once we're there it should be considered, yes. But I would hope the early shrine provides some passive spreads until then. ![]() The target. Most likely not today nor tomorrow. Something like 50 turns down the road maybe. Once more, patience is our challenge here. With the Mongols on the southern landmass outweighing him he is probably locked out of one of the possible jungle islands, and has to contest the other one with civac. Hopefully his growth get stunted and I can at least hold some ground against Plemo and Ari. Side note, look how almost every city has a lighthouse. Is that really worth it? Meanwhile with Fin I have 2, and one of them was built by Ari... Having scouted his island, I can now assess how hard the Fin/Inca nerf hit our start vs Suleiman, who I'd argue is still a pretty decent leader: ![]() He got 2 agri foods that he didn't need a tech for. Of course I can't tell if one or both were forested like our wheat. He did need Hunting for the furs though, so while he was a bit more flexible tech wise he needed the same stuff that as us. From the extra farm he also gets +1c, basically counterweighing our Fin bonus on the furs. There are 9 riverside tiles on that island while we have 6. And he gets 3 riverside grassland cottages, while we have none. That is pretty significant of course. Since he founded his second city so late apparently he could not work all those good tiles constantly, which becomes the most apparent in one of those grassland cottages having turned into a hamlet only on t99 or so. With a food surplus of 3 less I decided that after granaries a second city was required to make good use of the food. I think that was the right decision. For the last 50 turns I have maintained more or less clean 10 turn whip cycles on both cities, although growing back was painful at times, especially after the priest was employed. His capital is looking awesome with its t7x academy. I don't think I would want one at mine, and in general I'm always skeptical of the value vs a bulb, but here it sure seems nice. I also got his graphs recently: ![]() I'm not quite sure where the 2 jumps of nauf's come from. One is probably Currency, which makes me sad, as it means that I have no advantage on him when I thought I had at least a bit. But actually his economy seems to be in better shape than mine, hm. Ari is also doing the same thing, which is concerning. This is the one area where I should have an advantage over them theoretically (Ari moreso than nauf with his academy cap), to outweigh their Agg/Phi/Spi and better start islands, but it isn't looking like it. I've stopped depressing myself over Plemo, it just is what it is. ![]() ![]() Overall all the neighbours are in excellent shape, and better than mine. It doesn't seem likely that we'd close the crop yield gap anytime soon, although I'm trying to grow the cities (but then I'm going to whip forges soon...) ![]() No opening for now. ![]() Ha, here we're wrestling for dominance with Plemo, while the rest looks on from afar! (I'm aware that this makes the GNP graph reading all the more unfavourable) ![]() Yeah, Plemo has started to build courthouses. In fact as of last turn I've lost his graphs, hopefully he doesn't spend all on us, because then we are his target probably... Overall it seems like our corner of the world has a concentration of civs with great demos, probably a function of having been spared stupid destructive axe wars, of which I've seen signs of them occuring elsewhere on PBspy. That means that why I could be fairly content with the demos: ![]() I continue to feel behind the pack, at least locally which is what matters for now. Just have to sit and hope patiently that outside events turn out in my favour, and meanwhile use the limited resources as well as I can. As a (weak) support of my statement: ![]() We have contact with 5/17 competitors, but among them are 3 of the top 5 cities (and they also include the top 3 in city count as of this turn with Plemo and Empirate at 10 and Ari at 9). At least we own one of still only three wonders We're playing deity so I should pay extra attention to finances: ![]() To my shame, I haven't really. In particular I didn't record if the unproductive jungle island produced a net loss, and if yes how much. But I think it wasn't too terrible. Other people's moneys: ![]() ![]() Plemo should have only like 5 or 6 turns of research left from his GM mission, so that's cool. At least I have him scouted well and will see the cats and knights coming from afar.
I don't know why, but only the last 4 screenshots are not shown on my side, but the rest is shown. Crazy.
EDIT: Found it. You were missing the "/" in the ending screenshot tag.
