I'm sorry. That sucks.

He's not updating, so we'll never know why.

I will not be playing in another game with Gavagai again.

Just to play devils advocate (or Gav advocate in this case) the map positioning meant Pin and him were very likely to end up at war at some point. While I certainly understand why you attacked him ( land + gold + 2v1 wars are good to be in) it may have felt from his end that you were attacking him when you didn't have to be.

Anyways good luck.

Couple of random questions:

Guesses on what Bing will do next? He is another one who hasn't been posting.
ETA on UU?

You're quite right. Advocating for Gavagai is advocating for a devil.

1. Nothing for sure, but dollars to doughnuts I think he goes to smash Superdeath. He could go anywhere, though.
2. About twenty turns. You have no idea how ready I am for mass Pinch-enabled grenadiers.

Meanwhile, we have a retreating Roman army on flatland...
...so for the price of 3 catapults and a horse archer, let's wipe it out. He decides to swing back at me, I'm perfectly happy...it means I get Cumae fast. Otherwise, I need one more catapult cycle and then I'll finally wipe him out and turn pace improves.

Pindicator offered to trade maps with me, and so now I have pretty much the entire world known. It's beautiful:
...let's look at some of the rivals' lands. Might help decide where next to go.

Pindicator has done an impressive job with what's he's been given, all things considered. His lands are well-developed, but he's pretty much stuck. His security is best-in-game...I'd have a nightmare trying to slam into him, and I'm the only overland threat period. Expansion is tough from here, though...he might want to go sailing against Magic Science? Sucks to attack me almost as much as it'd suck for me to hit him.

Bing's development awes me. This many dry plains cottages took discipline, to an astronomical degree. He is easily in the best shape of all of us with the land he already has, and if adds more he might well be unstoppable. On the other hand, he's such a very ripe prize, and very vulnerable on the seas. Might be able to split him?[Image: 2jxkyry.jpg]

Superdeath has a beautiful start, with the best lighthousable lake I've ever seen. And yet, this is what he's got? WHAT HAPPENED? [Image: a4T1Bhe.jpg]

Magic Science has done a great job so far and is current top dog, but looking at his lands I'm less worried that I had been. His Celtic conquests are extremely vulnerable, and his economy is mostly serfdom-farm-based, plus Colossus. Good for now, but does not scale at all. [Image: LOibS2I.jpg]

Nowfluegug...I have no idea how he's even relevant with this land, let alone top score. He's got his cities mostly working 2/1/1 serfdom plains farms, this won't scale at all. Like, ever. What a miserable stretch of land he's got, good on him for making a silk purse here, because this is one hell of a sow's ear. The entirety of his geostrategic focus is fighting Magic Science. Forever. He's no threat to me, I'm not a threat to him, and if he caps Celtia he's in a better spot, but HOLY SMOKES is that some miserable land.  [Image: qT9xsCd.jpg]

I love this map.

I'm happy you're happy with whatever this is. I vaguely liked the shape.

I've been been curious how you feel about being at the crossroads position again. It was unintentionally, but in both PB64 & this one you seem to have gotten an interesting shaped crossroads empire.

It's a very interesting setup, to be honest. Feels kind of like Austria-Hungary in the board game Diplomacy...both the most opportunities to make good gains, but also the most threats. Bing's got many of the same benefits but far fewer vulnerabilities. I need to either go privateer swarms or make a bulb-path beeline to Steam Power ASAP for ironclads before he or Nugglefrugger hit galleons, because I'm extremely exposed, particularly on the western coasts. Astronomy is probably better but with Germany you know I'm extremely interested in that Steam Power line.

Kind of surprised there isn't more noise in the lurker thread, this is still a game that five people can absolutely win and it looks like we're finally in a shake-up era of tech and geopolitics. My Secret Chemistry Plan is so close to yielding fruit that I can TASTE it, and there's a good 2 in 3 shot of getting Steel immediately after via either GE bulb or another GMerch.

It is a very fascinating game to watch, but personally I don't find too much to comment on lately. Happenings are either well reported, or completely unreported.

It kind of reminds me of PB62 actually; when that ended we were cottaging plains over floodplains because they completed faster. That's how badly we wanted commerce there.

I'll do what I can to report...Bing Civac, in a potentially game-winning move, is invading Superdeath. This one city is low-key and gives SD a chance to whip more war elephants and catapults, but that's a huge stack slamming in, and I think the Carthaginian leader understands the importance of moving fast. If it was me, I would just run the knights deeper. Longbows and vultures behind walls trade okay, behind city walls, but they can't do anything to the stack on the ground.

Civac runs the critical war turns, I'm going to bet.

This surely is a fun game as long as you're not a Celt, so thanks for the nice reporting from my side as well. thumbsup.

I'd agree, super interesting but not a lot to say.
