WW21 - The Professor Is Dead [game thread]

I'm Hermes Conrad, accountant for the Planet Express.

I have an ability called Audit which let's me analyze the finances of another player to reveal his abilities. Turns out I only get the names of the abilities, though.

On night 1, I scanned Novice and determined that his ability is called "Influential Family". That's why I said his character has an influential family. On night 2, I scanned Lewwyn and got no result. That's why I said "Maybe it should be obvious, but I can't tell."
If you know what I mean.

And the person I'm trusting to "decode" my breadcrumbs is obviously Novice.

So you're basically claiming to be a second scanning role? Why did you scan me? I wonder what Gaz would say about that Zak?

You used your ability last night Lewwyn?

So, we have claims of:
Commuter
Role Seer
Tiebreaker
Vanilla
Vanilla
(dead) Seer

...it's obviously the two people who claimed Vanilla, right? tongue

Why did you scan me on night one, Zak?

Why are you bringing this up like that? Are you trying to defuse the argument before anyone else calls attention to it?

Lewwyn, I was waffling a bit about who to target on night 2. I was going to go for Mattimeo, since I was pretty sure he would at least be around today, but then I was made aware that he claimed vanilla early on, like Serdoa. I think scum would be hesitant to claim vanilla so early, in case there are watchers and trackers around, and they need to do a night kill. So while I could hope to catch one of them in a lie, I decided to hold off with my claim and hope to catch you or Gazglum in a lie, instead. I chose you, because you felt a little scummier overall, and since you made a number out of how you might be vanilla, and might not.

Novice, not sure exactly why I landed on you - it was a bit more impulsive. It's not that I suspected you so much as wanting to have some more information on you. As insurance, if you will. And I figured that if you were scum, you might want to keep me alive. (You had already had the chance to lynch me.) In hindsight, I should have realized that you had the extra .5 vote and targeted someone else.

Yes.

I think its Zak and one of the two vanillas. I don't buy 2 seers.

I had just come to the same conclusion.

Questions for Zakalwe:

Of course, it could still be an influential mafia family. smile With just 2 out of 9 scum (surely there are not 3), then maybe they got a minor boost to their voting power.

I'm not vanilla, but I have already breadcrumbed my ability so I'd rather hear some claims from others first.

I'm starting to think the mod may have lied to us about the random setup, though.

First, I'm ashamed to admit I didn't catch on to your breadcrumbing here. Doh
Just to be clear though, were you expecting anybody but me to be able to catch on to your breadcrumbing? I guess not.

My question though - if you're a town role seer, why risk outing yourself to me in a way that only I can understand? What if I'm mafia, catch on, and night kill you?

Another thing, why did you say that you suspect Azza lied to us about roles being handed out randomly?

At that point I was trying to get a mass claim moving, Novice. Then I could claim my role last, and point back to that breadcrumb as proof that I wasn't just making it up to fit the preceding claims.

The mass claim kind of sputtered to a halt, though. If I had been around more then maybe I could have argued more strongly for it to continue, but I wasn't. (In hindsight, maybe that was just as well, with a cop but no doctor.)

So last night I had to decide whether to claim my role or keep quiet and wait for another result. I chose the latter. If I died, you could inform everybody about my role. And if you were scum, then the details of my role or the name of your ability probably didn't constitute crucial information for town, anyway. That's what the whole "I'm not sure how to play this" interlude was all about. I was trying to ask for your advice, and in the end concluded that the risk was acceptable.

It looks like there is some correlation between characters and abilities. That's what I suspect Azza lied about. He described the ideal way to set up a themed game, but I'm not convinced that he actually followed that approach.
