Turn 203-205

Been a liiiiiittle busy lately, and the game is moving slow anyway. Some updates are do. This is a part 1, and then I took some pictures for the current turn, but here's what I've been up to.

Commodore landed the Kremlin as expected and got himself into UniSuffrage. He could probably rush-buy an army that would cause me serious problems in a heartbeat. He definitely could not kill me, but he could evaporate my chances of victory with hardly any effort expended. Just kinda hoping he won't do that at this point. Really, it's not Commodore's style to kingmake when he bears no grudge against either side, and we've given him peace in times when he was running no military whatsoever, so really he owes me at this point. I tend to guess he'll look at it that way, but if he doesn't, well let's not think about that since there's not really a whole lot I can do about it.

Bacchus sent me a few requests for gold, but honestly I don't care too much if Plako runs over him. That'll give mackoti someone else to worry about. I can't afford to give away gold right now while mack has far more techs researched than me, so if mack wants to let Plako become as strong as us, that's his call. Maybe the "best" choice is propping Bacchus up, but eh, I'm basically making choices at this point based on necessity and whatever sounds easiest.

So on T205, I tried to set a trap of sorts for Lewwyn. Tried.

So he set his 2-mover stack up to hit Gators if he wanted to. I wanted to defend it enough to not get it razed, but I also DID want him to attack it. The problem right now is his siege stack is so large (coming up on 30 CKNs and over 20 catapults) that I can't and won't really move in by land anytime soon. Anyway, he didn't end up taking the bait (that'll be explained in the next report), so I'll play riskier next time. The point is that I really want him to move in so I can make things go boom.

That'll demolish anything he comes in with. Tend to think this will just remain a standoff for awhile, though. Whatever. Here's his 1-mover stack:

Yep, not moving in on that anytime soon. Noooo thanks. Pretty soon here I'm just gonna turn the tech jets on (mass research builds and whatnot) and blaze through towards assembly line, sneaking in Biology.

Turn 206

Lewwyn didn't take the Gators bait. He added a few more Knights. I responded by very slightly weakening the garrison. That may be tempting fate too much... We'll see. Probably an unnecessary risk, but man it would be nice to wipe out his 2-mover stack. What would be realllllly interesting is if he attacked with his 2 movers and then covered them with all his 1 movers. Anyway, he didn't declare war (but we've been following a turn split), so I did:

I jumped in excitment when I saw this. First of all, he had a huge stack of Rifles in the heroic epic city last turn. But the main thing... look at what unit I have selected. Yep, it's commando time. I captured the city. So here are my two options. DOOR NUMBER ONE.

Free raze. One the positive, this is a slam dunk 99% raze of a good inland city. On the negative, it's not a powerhouse city.

Useful city to be sure, but still. DOOR NUMBER TWO.

(note: yes, I knew to go around the river to actually get those 78% odds - those odds are not factoring in the river penalty, but I took this screenshot just for illustration's sake.)

Take a 78% shot at a win that would severely damage Lewwyn. Take a look:

Just a much better city all-around. I chatted with Cyneheard for a few and agonized over this decision for what was probably a half hour or so. In the end, I decided the city that was a 99% shot wasn't overwhelmingly important, and may even be a questionable use of a great general to kill it. However, the capital would be more than worth it. Soooooo

On a serious note, no regrets, it was the right choice to roll the dice, and I'm not going to let an unfortunate (but always possible) outcome re-judge the decision. I've got a couple other ideas floating around in my head, we'll see. All his coastal cities are being emptied out and will start burning.

Good ol' dice rolls. Makes me long for the times of losing to privateers without doing a scratch.

Seriously, keep up the good fight. And thanks for all the fish
