I'm enjoying this game a good deal! The only thing is I have been sick the past few days, which makes it a bit of a bummer during turn plays. I don't have a lot of experience in warfare, so the early strike was a bit fun, and I scrambled to the defense enough the lucky Spear break wasn't a huge deal.
As for moving forward, I'm going to combine expansion and some decently strong military defense if I can: I already saw Wetbandit has another Axe and 2 WC in addition to another WC, so I expect this to be more like a 10 turn armistice than a long term peace. I actually considered invading him if he didn't invade me, but the fact he invaded me means he will probably have too much military for this to be realistic until a later era, maybe we can push early Knights or something. Fortunately, I have a solid Worker count (5 going on 6 EOT) and my city developement seems to be going at a good pace. What I need to do now is start up a whipping cycle or two: Tengu Mountain should be excellent for this, especially as it expands. Something good is that while I don't have amazing backline cities, I have some good spots I can settle that will start out pretty protected, so I won't have a huge front to protect, though I do hope to expand upwards to avoid him encircling my cities.
I'll be watching Bandit's stuff as well as I can, though I am not sure how I'll infer his techs, since no C&D was done earlier (I had no idea how to do it with so many players) and graphs are really hard to tell.
"Getting peace is a big victory! I'm not a fan of ancient war, but this map made it inevitable simply with the starting locations. It would be so even if Bandit weren't Egypt. The only way it wouldn't have happened is if two close neighbors respected each others' observation and skills enough to know that it wasn't going to make the game more interesting or fun for either in the end. And how do you get that level of respect? By successfully defending an ancient war, you get it in future games, perhaps?"
Probably by not being known as a player with my level of skill![rolf rolf](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/rolf.gif)
EDIT: Also, another reason to watch his military, if it fails to build up then I can slow my own military builds, since I only want to defend and not invade.
