So before the next clue goes up I was thinking more about Veal, and I think he might have been trying to hint to HAM. Veal being a calf steak, but we were only really associating with calf with our words aiming toward where our how the calf was raised.
But if you thinking of Veal as calf + steak, then ham could fit in for steak by association
I don't know; I've always considered ham specifically a pork product. I know the ham is a body part, but when I hear ham, I think pig, not cow.
As I understand it, veal is any meat from a young cow. Living in the middle of the US, I've usually seen it as Veal Parmesan or Veal Picatta. I would have gone for something like CHOP in a second, but didn't really see any meat words I liked.
I agree with pindicator on this one. Not that Ham is very Veal-connected...but if you're trying to clue Calf-Ham I really struggle to see a better approach. I guess maybe he could have clued piglet, but that would have made Calf a stretch.
Also, well...if Fenn was thinking of calf-raising methods he really slipped up, evidently all of Vet, Grass, Green were bad bad ideas. Where if he was thinking of end product in a store, Ham is a lot closer.
Wow, bringing out the big guns.
Definitely MODEL
BRUSH as a beauty tool makes sense.
Possibly NAIL SHOP, as in a manicure place typically run by a beautician?
And I still like HAM to finish it off .
Quite a few of the other words are things that can be considered beautiful. I don't like these quite as much but I wouldn't be horrified to guess:
SATURN
HORSE
PIE
THEATER
Well, even though I feel good about HAM I think we should still attack the new clue words first
NAIL - simple, direct association here with something that gets attention from beauty products
BRUSH - beautify your hair
THEATER - beauty is an act of dressing up, staging your appearance so to speak
HORSE - wasn't there a famous racehorse name Black Beauty?
MODEL - again, simple direct association
Since I've listed 5, I would go with NAIL, BRUSH, and MODEL as concrete yes votes. After that I think I lean THEATER over HORSE but I'm less sure.
Beauty is a huge asset for a career as a MODEL
... and also in the THEATER
A BRUSH is used to apply makeup
You can get lots of beauty supplies in a SHOP
I think there was a movie called the Beauty THIEF?
Lots of NAIL salons are trying to make their customers more beautiful
After reading spoilers:
Black Beauty is a book about a horse. I read it many years ago.
My top four are MODEL, THEATER, BRUSH, NAIL
HORSE - wasn't there a famous racehorse name Black Beauty?
Hope that's not cluing HORSE as assassin
I'm ok with cluing the same four words that you and DaveV like...but can we have THEATER last among them? I'm less confident in it than the other three
