Caster of Magic II Bug Reports!

(December 29th, 2023, 09:13)TheLaundry Wrote: I can't launch the game anymore. The problem started for no apparant reason, just closing the game then launching it again later in the day.
Restarting the PC didn't help. Uninstalled the game and deleted remaining files. Installed the base game from GOG's offline installer, then installed CoMfW also from GOG's offline installer.
Still won't launch.
No updates or anything else happened with the PC that I'm aware of.

Log.txt

I had the same issue, moving the files:
1. log.txt
2. COM.set
3. all saved games 1.sav...8.sav

to a separate folder fixed the issue.

Happened to me again just now, and moving the saves and COM.set fixes it. I did that and then moved the saves back and tried loading each one. After a point loading a save causes the crash, so it's definitely save file corruption. Here are two saves, one before and one after the corruption.

Playing the most recent Steam version. Enemy undead naga with focus magic. It has 4 magic ammo. I cast Aether Sparks on it. Naga magic ammo does NOT get lowered per Aether Sparks' description. The Naga unit does receive damage, as it should.

Autosave for testing purposes:

(the enemy Naga unit stands next to MyCapital, use its garrison to attack the enemy army, or wait a turn until the enemy army attacks you)

This is not bug report but report on state of the game speed. I get many report on how  many players who play Warlord mod get slower end turn speed when compare to previous version of CoM while change of the mod is minimal. And this is noticable from the first turn. End turn seem to get longer by 10 or 20 seconds from the first turn and through out the game.

I have encounter some unreplicable bug in Hadriex's stream as he change his mod version that completely save game compatible. His transmute spell he has already researched gone missing from his book. But game seem to consider he already has this spell and could not be traded anymore. I have try save game before this happens but I could not replicate the bug (he said problem occur during copy/move process outside the game). As there is no script to give spell to wizard mid-game yet, is there anyway to fix this?

Hi,

You can build a number of road tiles with a couple of engineers and a cavalry with cloud walking,
you can reproduce it in the attached save,

Thank you!

There seems to be a math error with Wave of Despair that causes it to do excessive damage to units with high resist. In this save file, select Warrax the Chaos Warrior and move 3 spaces west to attack the orange Magician stack. On the first or second turn the enemy will cast Wave. It often insta-kills Warrax, or if not it does massive damage.

According to the spell formula, the attack power on the 9 unit stack should be:
255 / (2+9) = 23.2
Then reduce its damage by 10 + unit resistance. Warrax has 17 resistance, so 23 - 27 = 0.

Your 9 stack is all immune to cold (undead).  So warrax is the only living target.  The number of units used here is 1.

Oh, I see. However, the spell description is really not well worded for this effect...

"Calls forth powerful negative energy that freezes all enemy units"
"... deals irrecoverable cold damage to each unit..."

A bit lower it says that it doesn't affect units immune to cold or magic, but that's like saying Flame Strike doesn't affect units immune to fire. Why is a "Wave" spell that attacks all units also capable of pinpoint targeting a single unit in a stack? That's rather OP and, well, counter to the notion of what a wave is.

Anyway if this already exceptionally powerful spell needs to be this way, I'd suggest changing the desc to "Calls forth powerful negative energy that directs all its killing power at any enemy units not immune to cold."
