From my perspective, who would want to play a game that could last 6 months without diplomacy and talking between players and spectators allowed? If I want to play vs the AI I can do so by myself.

Those who've gone through the hell of playing a diplo game
Real players are quite different from AI as I'm sure you will find out as the game goes on.

Also the difference of games is huge. Vs players you get a pretty much balanced map not like when you play against AI, and also you play actuals brains. The Civ IV IA is pure crap, when you get more difficulty you just raise the bonnus of the AI, not the actual difficulty, its not like chess, on chess when you raise the dificulty you dont make the AI play with 2 queens its just a better "brain". And that doesnt happen on Civ IV.
So playing this games is actually much more fun than vs the AI, and in all the games ive played in this forum ive never needed more diplo. I like it like it is.

Yeah Jesse, FWIW these Pitbosses have totally ruined singleplayer for me, because they're so much more fun. Playing against opponents smarter than me, and taking the time to carefully play, gives every turn weight. The timeframe also means you get really attached to your civ, so the highs are amazing, and the lows are crushing. It really is a totally different experience, for me at least.

Diplo in games is cool but I can totally imagine that banning diplo, so that no inorganic dogpiles are possible, is a good thing.
Goes well with disabling scoregraphs. And spies? So figuring out the gamestate is actually.... well not always difficult, but never can you have perfect knowledge.

Was just logging in to check gamestate and have write some thoughts down. Did some of my turn, but was undecided on other moves.
Will take turns tho, in the next few minutes or so, otherwise I'll delay the turns too much.

I evidently should have explained this more when we were voting. But ya you can casually talk in game about the weather or general topics like that, but any in game diplo has to run through AI screen. I look forward to the weirdest screen post game.
Diplo games have a lot of baggage settings wise and take even more time than a normal pitboss. Most of the early games were full diplo if you want to go back and do some fun reading. Last diplo game held was actually sort of boring though from diplo perspective.

One of my ongoing thoughts / a comment I've made is that I wish the rules for this were a bit more well defined. And things like "fish for fish = peace", etc were written laid out somewhere. I knew about that, but mostly because I've picked through random old game reports

As others have noted, Diplo games arent in fashion right now. Bad blood/easier to just worry about normal gameplay than juggling diplo messages with X amount of other players.
The last Diplo game that we tried didnt have too awful much diplo in it either. I admit, reading Sullla's reports and seeing some of those early pb threads gave me the spark to COME to Realms Beyond, but even just the non-diplo games sometimes get heated enough as it is. (btw, dont randomly snipe someone's settler with a warrior that you DONT border.. they will never forget/forgive)
If you want to try your hand at a diplo game, i believe i still have a signup buried somewhere in the Civ General Forum that you/others could post in.
"Superdeath seems to have acquired a rep for aggression somehow. In this game that's going to help us because he's going to go to the negotiating table with twitchy eyes and slightly too wide a grin and terrify the neighbors into favorable border agreements, one-sided tech deals and staggered NAPs."
