Ya that is what I figured. Was I trying to figure out if I could move my eastern fleet through Bloody Rose and Sally Brown.......
Again, I don't see a path really especially while people are just hanging out on the sidelines (even after being the cause of me being in this position), but I'm trying to look for weird things I SWEAR. PB 66 map making and other life things is taking up a descent bit of brain bandwidth though......

Also, a fort only works as a canal if it next to water itself, so you can go water-fort-city-fort-water.

I actually could get the fleet over then..... if I raze a Bing city and replace in a different spot lol.

Anyways, turns out my units don't get as good odds I thought they should across a river with cultural defense up on a hill. I should have bugged out last turn.
This turn Ginger is forking Auckland Bluff and Press Gang. I can put enough units in each, but if he has more from the fog I may lose my mother told me. /shrug. Edit: Ah there is a stack of rifles moving up on it next turn. Fair enough.
I'm assuming I'm the last hold out for concessions BECAUSE NO ONE IS BLOODY HELPING.
Edit: oh Magic is teching Astronomy and literally the only reason for that is to stab me.

This is almost right. The actual rule is: A boat can only enter a fort or city if it's next to a body of water. So fort-city-fort only works if there's a water tile (even a one-tile lake) in one of the city's eight first-ring tiles. But you can go fort-fort-fort-city-fort-city-fort or whatever if you have little lakes in the right spots to keep the chain going, but you can't go fort-city-fort if the city is landlocked.
(I think Charriu was saying the same thing in a slightly different way: There has to be a land path of no more than two tiles between each body of water to canal between them, for exactly this reason. But as long as the enabling bodies of water are in place, you can keep moving through adjacent-to-the-water fort and city tiles with or without entering the water in between.)
Regardless: Keep up the good fight! (As long as it's actually fun for you!) Even if you go down swinging, you'll have tried at least - and perhaps created opportunities for mistakes on which you can capitalize....

Thanks for the clarification RefSteel. It means I no longer have an excuse to go raise that Bing city though.....

Last turn I did a thing. I wasn't sure if Ginger was moving in or not, but turns out it wasn't needed.
Ginger I think*** still has units in striking distance, so maybe still not a horrible idea. You can see last turn Ginger was teching steel. This turn he switched to astronomy. Also, for some reason he thinks I want a peace treaty so he can kill every seaside city I have when it expires. Now mind you I may want a peace treaty, but mainly because SD seems to be marching his stack my way??? I'm going to assume its to back me up on the front I don't need backed up on instead of harassing the eastern front I just lost a bunch of cities and have really needed his help the last few turns. But SD has been known to declare war to get games to end sooner / shrug. You can also see Magic teching Astronomy which again the only reason is to stab me, even though Magic ALSO has promised to help at one point.

I think its that time.
I don't really see a path forward and I'm not particularly interested in having to defend every seaside city as I slowly draft my empire into oblivion. I have one ally, but he is doing silly things like sending his troops to a stable border with no action. But to SDs credit he is at least doing SOMETHING.
I'll of course keep fighting if others are interested. I have a very small plan, but its not going to be enough. Mainly figure it doesn't look like anyone else actually cares and I have limited free time. PB66 map making is taking a lot of time and I have PB65 micro to do.

Assuming we are still going? Just curious as its an over time day for me. Again, I'm very willing to continue fighting if others are especially now that I don't have to make PB66 map. My concession does still stand though as again, I just don't see a path forward without every other playing getting off their butts.

Now that the concession has happened I'll have follow up eventually, but ya my minor plan such as it was, was to launch a naval invasion as stated WAY back during the first Roman war. I was going to move galleys in position next turn (SDs units somewhat being helpful in that I could fill the ships twice over and not worry as much). Anyways, Ginger correctly teching Astronomy A) made this plan less likely to succeed (whereas before it was very likely) and B) meant I would have had to raze them and still have lost naval control.
