[PB64] Amicalola Gets To Heaven with Tarkeel and Ljubljana

Remember to mix in some longbows with those pikes! Mixed stacks are hardest to attack, and the LBs will defend against shock knights.

It looks like Amicalola is currently researching feudalism, so does not yet currently have access to longbows, unless longbows were moved to another tech in this mod...?

T180 - War!
My images aren't uploading properly, so I only have about half of what I took screenshots of. Stupid Australian internet. I hope Nauf's reporting is better than mine cry

Naufragar did declare war, and is actually attacking on both fronts, although moreso on the southern.

I sacrificed two spears and an axe to kill a knight and two workers. I thought that was a nice play by Nauf, because if he'd guarded the workers with the knight I wouldn't have needed to lose the axe. Although I'm not sure why he didn't just put the workers on his main stack to be safe from the beginning. crazyeye  Maybe he didn't have enough movement.

Another nice play by Nauf that I didn't anticipate was moving his knights to a separate, more northern tile than his main 1-moer stack. This prevents me from reinforcing New Kemosable the way I would like, and means he'll be able to raze at least that city. Well done, Naufragar. Golfclap I wonder if this war will prove my longstanding claim that he's as good as me, and just got unlucky in our PB59 battle.

His stack at Fever Dream is not as big, and has only 2 catapults. I think we can hold here, so I moved most of the main stack southwards. It will be very embarrassing if I am wrong. scared

Our galley was able to whack Naufragar's work boat, at least. He renamed it scouting chariot, I'm not sure what that was about. The art of misdirection? lol

I also pillaged Nauf's clams at Yue-Chi with my other galley, although he's got a Caravel so that will be a short-lived victory. For some reason, it didn't occur to me until now to build some of those myself. duh But hey, at least that was satisfying.

FWIW, I had big issues getting Imgur to accept my images last night, so it might not be aussie shittynet for once.

I don't really have the energy to report this properly when my pictures aren't working, but for posterity I wanted to say that nauf way outplayed me this turn with his knights. When you read this, Nauf: nice job. Golfclap

I also suspect that SD is planning to attack me, or at least considering it, as he is conspicuously waiting for me to play this turn. He would have nothing to gain from such an attack (my only reasonable move would be to abandon Nauf defenses and hold my core), but that's never stopped SD before. We'll have to see.

Sorry, for the lack of report. Between the pictures and a general 'feeling down' about civ recently, it's difficult to find the motivation. Hopefully I'll be back to my normal civ-loving self soon enough.

I am still not really feeling the reports, but having just lost two 75% combats in a row (the only combats this turn), I am increasingly curious how far the streak can go. Don't forget the string of 80% losses vs Gavagai, or the earlier similar results vs. Naufragar. Maybe it's karma for something. I don't think I've had a game with really bad combat luck before, so probably I'm just learning the lesson that most people already have.

(Naufragar is, of course, playing very well too. Actually, I'm pretty sure he's about to win, because I was a little too greedy with the bazaars (and not because he's lucky). I'm just very frustrated by our combat luck this game, regardless of it's relevance for the final result)

I want to also clarify that my feeling down about civ is not feeling down in a 'civ mechanics' way, or at least mostly not that. It's also mostly not in a losing way, although that is sad (if Naufragar wins, it's because he saw an opportunity to press a temporary advantage and performed excellently - he deserves it). It's just that I have once again signed myself up for too much civ. I thought this game would be over (or myself dead) by the time PB66 got interesting, and I was dead wrong. Oops. smoke You can see the results in my turnpace in both games. The game goes from being a fun distraction to a chore when I have too much of it to play, and I've just hit that point again. PB66 is suffering from the same problem, although hopefully once this game is over will become more fun again. I still have no idea how SD plays as much civ as he does. crazyeye My second round of placements is coming up in a week and I am dreading that a little bit.

I was really curious about you starting PB66. It seemed too soon in general, but heh 12 players can't complain. Good luck! Its not like you haven't counted yourself out 3 times before this game?
