[SPOILER] Dark Savant's thread: Competition for limited resources remains a constant

Okay, Superdeath did have a big stack hidden somewhere in the fog. That`s bad news, but hopefully he won`t be able to press on. Knights and Catapults should be able to deal with that. Swapping to Slavery is probably the right call as there is an urgent need to get more units to the front immediately. Let`s hope that Commodore keeps on taking cities from Superdeath. Do you know if those recently captured cities are on islands?

superdeath isn't pressing on, except with a couple of triremes on the west coast (building caravels there now).  He's starting to pull out troops, actually.

The recently captured cities can't all be on islands ... since superdeath just lost his capital together with the Great Lighthouse.

Even if I take no more cities, I feel this war was worthwhile, even with all the lost troops.  (Next time, build more spies!)

I now have contact with OH (didn't bother offering any kind of trade), and with Gavagai (we now have Open Borders).  2metraninja and BeardBeard-now-naufragar were both eliminated in the interturn.  Boy, does Rusten have a lot of knights and UU pikemen, in his newly conquered territory in what was once 2metraninja's territory.  TBW-now-naufragar has to be on the brink of elimination too.

Guilds is due next turn; now producing longbows, horse archers, and caravels in most mature cities.  Eight turns of Golden Age to go.  Oh, I'm currently building the Temple of Artemis just for the GP generation.  crazyeye  I think I'll live long enough to fire Golden Age #3.  Also, I still somehow have no contact with Commodore.

Rusten isn't resting on his laurels with the elimination of 2metraninja.  He recently declared war on Borsche, and is already taking cities.

I also have a chariot scouting out AT.  I'll have advance warning if he makes any move.

I agreed to a peace treaty with superdeath where he pays 5 gpt; I'm not going to be able to hit him for at least 10 or so turns anyway.  I'm refusing any Open Borders or non-aggression pact unless he pays me a lot for it (I asked for 75 gpt); I'm completely content with superdeath being eliminated by anyone other than OH or Rusten, even if I end up with no additional land.  Commodore is continuing to clobber superdeath, and the one spy I have left (superdeath has caught the other two by now) sees a single knight of Commodore's in a just-captured city.  superdeath has also moved many of his units away from our border.

I've refused Open Borders with OH for the simple reason that I don't want to help either of the two leaders (OH and Rusten).  I do have OB with everyone other than those two and superdeath ... and Commodore, my spy apparently just made contact so I offered OB.

I'm more or less at the top of the "no chance whatsoever to win" heap.  At this point I'm also OK with anyone below me dying, as it means I'll have lasted longer.  I'm fine with angling for more than survival if I have any chance to win, or a chance to swing at one of the leaders.  The former isn't there, and the latter seems like a bad idea so long as superdeath has any units or cities on this landmass.

Guilds is now in; knight production has begun, though I'm still producing many longbows.  I should swap over to more knights soon.  I also just got Banking; the reason for this is that I thought I might be forced back into Slavery, so I wanted the ability to revolt to Mercantilism as well.  But it's now clear I'm not going to be attacked imminently; I'll be able to stay in Caste System until the end on the Golden Age, which now has 5 turns to go.  I'm 1-turning Literature now, as I think I'll last long enough for the Epics to pay off.  I'm going to try to squeeze in Civil Service and Theology before the end of the Golden Age, but I'm not sure I can get both.

So, superdeath double-moved me, declared war (apparently taking first half again?), and killed a caravel "accidentally".

This is a significant disadvantage for me, if it's the eastern caravel I just moved out, since I was depending on that to try to get circumnavigation.

So we're looking att one of these things:
  • we reload
  • superdeath gives me a larger advantage as a concession
  • I quit
He can't "accidentally" double-move me and expect to keep any advantage.

Also, I had a guarded stack on the border building improvements.

I guess that might have been too much temptation to avoid attacking, isn't it.

A this point there have been multiple war turns and several hours of collective in-game time played since Superdeath's log-in save. Could you log in and get a couple screenshots of the actual damages sustained due to the double move, and suggest the concession/compensation?

Well, Superdeath should know better than double moving you and then declare war. I`d say that you should definitely get a reload or some sort of compensation. Games on Realms Beyond are very much built upon mutual trust as surely it`s not hard to get an advantage by running clock games for example. The rule on double moves is pretty clear though. Could you post a screenshot of the offending action (if possible)?

I hope you keep on playing and soldier on. In fear of copyright infringement - Superdeath delenda est.

So I can log in safely?  I'm still not certain which side of the timer I'm on -- am I second?  It's hard to tell with a double-move war declaration.

I also cannot log in until late this evening, sorry.  I didn't want to log in while this was unresolved (before starting work), because I thought I might see things I should not.

I`d say that logging in just to take a screenshot is okay as long as you tell the other party about it (but I know some people disagree on RB). As your window is much later it might be better just to wait for Superdeath to confirm which half he`s claimed before actually logging in.

Okay, I'll log in just to figure out what happened later today.

Can the lurkers just re-create units on demand without too much trouble (which superdeath suggested)?  I think it's just best to raise any killed units (on either side) from the dead, force any of superdeath's attackers (at least that privateer) to retreat for one turn (he suggested disbanding it outright, but that's not needed), and otherwise impose a 1-turn grace period on either of us attacking the other's units or invading the other's territory, to try to reset things.  Maybe that can even done without me looking.

At least that way we won't need to roll back anything else in the world.  If this really is limited to the 1 caravel superdeath says he's killed, that's fine with me.
