[PB78] Underdogs and undercats: The Mrrshan warlords visit the world of Civ IV

It won’t be effective to do it now because it's far from our other cities. I’ll shortly settle the iron between the old and the new capitals as a stepping stone and then we’ll recapture with a couple of swords.

Question about overflow/regrowth on settler whip as I ended up missing 2 hammers in 2 cities and it replicates in the sim but I don't understand what's happening. Here are the details for one of the cities:

Starting state: Pop 6, food 31/32, 13 hammers in settler.
Action: 6->3 whip, settler shows as 103/100.
State before ending turn: Stored food is 31/26. Food excess is 9 and production is 2 for a total of 11 hammers going into the settler.

Expected overflow next turn: 3 from the overwhip + 11 from the new hammers = 14
Actual overflow: 12
Also: The city grew to 4 with remaining food of 18/28 as expected, and no extra gold was generated.

Charriu has the answer:

  1. ...
  2. Food is gained or lost
  3. Food is gained or lost for the food storage (think granary)
  4. Population is increased or decreased with enough food, food kept is updated in the event of growth
  5. ...
  6. Hammers are invested into the current build queue object
  7. ...

So the city first grew to 4 but the food was converted into hammers only after that, leaving us with the new citizen eating without contributing. I thought it was a good idea to set up the city for regrowth on the whip turn but it turns out it has a hidden 2f cost.

Makes sense. I've used that trick as well, but I've never had that situation come up.

It's only an issue if you are whipping a worker/settler.

Turn 83

Settled two border cities - Morrig to the north with Magic and Firma to the east with Gav. They do not have the highest yields and especially Firma had to sacrifice a lot, but their main purpose is to create defendable borders. With Firma on a hill and on our side of the river it will be very difficult for Gav to assault it and we also built a fort on the forest hill choke 1W of the lake, which is manned by several archers now defending at 10.5 strength. With this hopefully we can finally put an end to the cold war and focus on other things, though I have obviously been the baddie here razing a city and then denying first ring land.

Next to Morrig there is a flood plain wheat that was guarded by a barb mace but this time the RNG was kind.

Next up is a new city in 5 turns to provide iron and then we'll recapture Fierias with swords.

In international news SD got a second barb city and is doing very well. I asked him to stop trading with Magic pointing out that he doesn't need to because his barb cities provide the same yields but let's see if he gets the idea.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a fort built in MP other than as a canal. Probably an appropriate build under the circumstances, but unusual - fits the game I suppose!

I've seen plenty of forts built as airbases, but that's a similar usecase as the canal. I do think I've seen a handful of defensive forts before, but they're quite rare.

SD sent me an offer I'm not sure how to interpret:

What are the standard methods of communication? From what I've seen fish and food means peace/friendship, and copper and iron means war allies. But what does gold mean? And why has he attached 4 of his own cities to the offer? Theoretically I could just take it to make this game even wilder rolleye
