Vanilla with random picks would be a joykill. Would there be any way to either do a snake pick or select 33 (or however many) combos that are considered somewhat balanced and then do random picks with rerolls or swaps? A day or two of swapping could be fun, and would give people a higher chance of a combo they'd like to play.

I would drop out if vanilla, and probably also if we end up running with less then 22 people.
Erebus in the Balance - a FFH Modmod based around balancing and polishing FFH for streamlined competitive play.
I will drop in if it's vanilla, unless if it's not an insane 25+ player game.
But really plako, I'm not intending to crap on your thread at all, and I think ditching the mod will cause more harm than good to your game. I don't have a dog in this fight, all I was trying to suggest was that IF you really want to maximize signups RBP13 being still ongoing in the elephant in the room. Now that said, I'm not confident on people actually being able to wait to sign up for other games until a critical mass can join this one, but in theory that's probably the best plan.
I think the sign-up thread is missing the incredible darrelljs/Ichabod team. Maybe darrell dropped out and I didn't see it, otherwise you can include us, plako.
I don't think you'd get enough viable combos with BTS. You're back to the fact that PRO is shit and FIN rules the world. And that America, Germany, etc., are horrible civs. And then there's the predictability of everything...I don't see how this game is interesting or playable under BTS settings for a large player set, even if you go through the trouble of banning a lot of things to try and make it "fair". Anyway, I've played enough random BTS games. If I'm playing random it really needs to be RB mod in a field of this size. And I don't think dropping the randomness in favor of a snake pick (or similar) setup will help much, since that would just favor the first however many players who scoop up the best leaders + maybe the top few non-banned civs. For this many players we really have to have RB mod and its balance changes to make everything playable, since nearly everything will need to be played. Else, we're playing a different (smaller) game, and I'm not up for another smaller BTS game right now.

Hey, again I think the mod is the right way to go here based on the player base, I just don't personally favor it. But @space I think saying non-mod is uninteresting or unplayable is a narrow view. It would be interesting because it's 34 players, same reason IMHO it's interesting under the mod. It's a gigantic game that pushes the limits. As for whether it's unplayable, you could allow some duplicates, you could handicap the picks like Brick is handicapping the map, you could have some sort of auction system for the better picks like I've long liked but have never seen successfully done, or you could be OK with some uneven pairings. It's not like under the mod the picks, land, or certainly players will be exactly even. Saying vanilla is less fun and below one's threshold to participate makes perfect sense, but I just don't see a bright line where a picking setting makes the game unplayable.
If you end up with Churchill of America without RB Mod I think you'll find the game unplayable.

I would give it some time. After all if my checks are correct you are actually up to 21 teams already, what seems pretty good.
