wow, what a great event- and location!
So what's the plan for the Great Artist?

hopefully 1/2 of a golden age, as long as Carnival doesn't pop a GA at a tiny chance from the NE in ~10-15ish turns. if I get 2 GA, I might bomb out Bacchus-land if a good opportunity presents itself.
And wow, its even luckier than I imagined. I thought it was triggered by my GA being born, but instead it was because I have aesthetics and a tundra tile! And I'm lucky I had the gold - if this event popped last turn, I wouldn't have been able to pay!
Code: Event48
Yeah, that was amazing luck...normally, tundra cities could care less about the culture.
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.
I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.
I agree. I've gotten that event before a few times in single player games, and had always thought the first option (+100 raw culture for free) for 3rd ring border-pops was the superior choice - but then again, I've never been in an all-in, tug-of-war-on-a-razor's-edge culture fight for close to ~80 turns with an AI before either.
T145, more good news. Bacchus attacked out! Or tried to, at least: His first attack was basically a tactical suicide to get rid of my fresh C2 pike as a top defender, then pitted his weary (9.2/10) GG Knight against my C2 Formation Knight at 80% odds - and lost! Lucky, lucky me. My big question now is whether to attack next turn, with 3 catapults, or in 2 turns, with 5 (and an additional knight + sword). He's got 4 knights (2 heavily damaged), 2 CG2 Longbows, 3 CG1 Longbows, 1 WE, and 3 immortals remaining. Would not be surprised if he spite-whips the capital down to size 1 and pulls his remaining forces back. Paper, The National Epic, and The Heroic Epic will all complete in 2T, for a massive score increase. I wonder if it will be enough to vault me back into 4th place?
Whew... some bad luck last night. I took some screenshots, but didn't even have the heart to look at them again this morning. I hit Bacchus's stack last night with mine. He had 6 longbows (3 CG1) at full health, 1 WE, 5 knights, 4 damaged, and 4 Immortals. I figured that 3 cats would be enough to take that stack with only a few losses considering that his knights were pretty badly damaged. Well, it was not to be. In addition to my cats, I think I lost 7 or 8 knights! My cats barely did any direct damage, beyond their collateral, leaving the top two stack defender at 44%. My first 4 knight attacks then procedeed to whiff, either getting perfect defeats or inflicting at most 1 hit. After that, I lost a few 70%-80% attacks as well. I think he'll have to retreat, maybe spite-whipping before he does, as it didnt look like he had any other reinforcements in range and his remaining stack consisted of 1 mostly dead knight, 1 mostly dead longbow, and 3 immortals, but - my god, the cost of it. What I should have done I guess was move my stack 1E so that my knights could attack without the river-crossing malus, mighta came out with 4 or 5 more alive knights that way even if he scrounged up some additional reinforcements somehow.
Hope he doesn't have any further tricks to pull out of a hat...
Ah, after such a long seige, finally my prize after cleanly cleaning up a few more longbows (he pulled out his remaining mounted but left the 1-movers)... and it doesn't come with much, lol!
Epics done, massive 60 point slingshot, but only enough to push me up to 5th place. With the HE finally online and most of my cities going full-barrel towards military, my power should recover quickly. I'm gonna have to set aside some of it for my western border with TBS though; I feel increasingly nervous about our open borders.
In international news, BGN scored the Taj this turn, while dtay libbed the Economics merchant a few turns ago while in a golden age. Here I thought I was up with the economic leaders, but I haven't even started Education yet. The top GNP is now over 1500, which, while souped up in a golden age, is almost double my maximal. Yeesh.

So, Suttree's greatest contribution to the meta here at Realms: (April 5th, 2014, 16:25)suttree Wrote: Usually prefer to be silly/motivational but This after Scooter's PB13 siege of Lewwyn went horribly wrong. In this case, you had: 3 * 5(I think) = 15 total "sprinkles" of collateral, some of which were absorbed by knights that were below the cutoff for catapult damage. Against his 20 troops, that can't even damage everyone once. Also, how did you promote the cats?
Ah, that's a great, simple insight. I think I was thinking that since half his knights were already damaged, that it would be OK, but I see my mistake in that line of reasoning very clearly now. Well, c'est la vie.
I've always promoted cats city raider against cities to ensure they last more combat rounds, barrage in the open field to ensure they do more damage. Is that wrong? |
