As a French person I feel like it's my duty to explain strikes to you. - AdrienIer

WW39. Escape from the Congo.

Suspicion appeared to rest fairly evenly between AdrienIer and Rowain throughout the day. A few others were questioned, but during the long and dusty drive to the town, the group had ample time to discuss what had been going on. They reached the town, though it was a stretch to call this ramshackle group of buildings such, and were able to make a few calls to try to arrange for some alternate transportation. It was going to cost them, but given the deadline they faced, it was worth it.

On the drive back to the village, some people were questioned more heavily than on the trip out. Some wanted to know where Mattimeo went once they reached the town, others rehashed some arguments from the prior day. Despite all this, and the protestations of both Rowain and AdrienIer, the crew remained largely focused.

The truck they were riding in overheated not far from the village, so the crew decided to walk. Tired, thirsty, dusty, mentally and emotionally exhausted, it was not surprising that the conversation became more and more angry. Everyone had lost friends at this point, and they all wanted to lash out. Just a few miles out from the town, the temper of the group as a whole snapped.

With the sun just a sliver on the horizon, Gazglum joined the larger consensus against Rowain. Despite constant claims of innocence, and exclamations about the guilt they would feel on the morrow, the group turned on Rowain. They told him to empty his pockets, show them his phone. They wanted proof of who he was working with, and who he was working for. When he refused the group tackled him and tried to search him by force.

While Rowain’s job was only to open the safe, he was no slouch in defending himself. The fight raged on for a few minutes, before three members of the crew managed to pin him down. Everyone appeared surprised when a loud crack was heard, echoing in the dusk air. Once everyone got off of him, they realized Rowain’s neck had been snapped.
And then there were six.

Rowain has been lynched on day two. He was an Honorable Thief.

Night two begins.

Rowain and you are almost certainly not partners, everyone agreed on this. When we flip him as scum now, you will be looking much better in a lot of people's eyes.

Ok but I'm giving you the hell tomorrow if Rowain is town. Rowain
Oh, would you look at that? Same damn thing as yesterday. Pull the hammer himself, then try to swing the blame on the person who started the wagon.

Are you just sent by some god to test my nerve ? Really ? I pulled no hammer, Rowain was going to die either way. Novice Shadeun and Gazglum weren't going to move their votes and even if Rowain had moved to me he was still losing the tie. Gazglum clearly pulled the lynch through, and looks really really bad, yet I think I'm going to start tomorrow voting for you. Unlike you I've been trying to get things right, so my conscience is clear even if you're town.

Well, you're right, Rowain, finding the scum pair should be pretty easy now. I'm sure we'll get it wrong anyway though. bang

Also, apologies for pushing through the lynch without properly engaging with your defense. You started defending as I started driving. (Not saying your defense would have necessarily swayed me but I didn't mean to ignore it.)
I have to run.

Well this sucks. GG Rowain.

Not looking to play the blame game right now but Gaz seemed to have a pretty good line on Rowain so options are now on Zak (who went MIA) and then back to matt and Adrien.

Really a reread is needed with the innocent Rowain mindset. I'm pretty drink now and on phone but will be back Sunday evening to
I am Jack's Complete Lack of Surprise

GG, Rowain.

Sorry for lurking through all of that. Insanely busy day for me.

Tomorrow is also a big day in Norway (constitution day) so we're lucky it falls on a night phase and not LyLo.

I want to reread and gather my thoughts before pointing any fingers. Also keep in mind that the night kill may eliminate a suspect. Let's not all declare our exact lynch priorities just yet, as that makes it much easier for scum.
If you know what I mean.

The group sat around a fire late into the night. No one had much to say, other than a few anecdotes about Rowain, and a toast to his memory. The fact that they had, once again, killed one of their own was almost completely overshadowed by their fear of what was left to come. Four of the original crew was gone, nearly half of those that started the job, and still no one knew who was behind two of them. They were scared, and they had to hold out for two more days.

Though they were able to secure alternate transportation, likely before the Congolese government was aware of the heist, they had to wait two days for it to arrive on location. That meant two more nights of guarding their backs, and two more days of hoping to avoid any more fatal fights. Then, if they could do that, they would head home, divvy up the profits, send out the dead men’s share to their families, and retire to a place where the loss of friends only happened to old age.

To some however, that was not enough. Greed had infused them to the point where they were unwilling to settle for anything less than half of the remaining gold. It was nothing new this greed, it had existed since the first time three men glanced upon great riches, and one was slain to increase the others profit. This night, it happened yet again.

Novice hid perhaps too well that night. Drawing upon his skills as the crew’s grease monkey, he did what he was best at, and wormed his way into a locked barn. Finding it empty, and thinking himself unwatched, Novice burrowed into some hay, intent on waiting out the night. Unfortunately, Novice was seen, and by someone who wished him ill, and he awake to the smell of smoke, and the light of flames. The fire spread quickly, starting from the hole he had snuck in through, and before the village could stop it it had consumed the barn, and everyone heard the screams of agony as Novice was burned to death. The end was not quick.

Novice has died. He was an Honorable Thief

Day three begins.
