[SPOILERS - El Grillo & Charriu PB51] One step at a time

Wonders, religions and such are generated through another source of the gamecode (don't worry, I didn't know that until yesterday when I read this up at our place wink) and are handed out randomly. The circumnavigation as a team event follows a different string.

Alright, good to know, even if the news does nothing for my mood. Well when you read this Plemo, nothing personal.

Unrelated to the game:
I went for a walk the other evening and found myself reminiscing about a friend who's no longer with us and ended up fairly distraught. It's really amazing how a small cue like retracing a path and feeling the wind blow from a certain direction can spark such intense memories. This is as close to a daily journal as I keep these days, so I figured I might write down something at the top of my reports about how things are going. Don't mind the sentimental rambling of a lonely fool smile

T109:
The clock is ticking...

Ramk swapped back to a mine at Djenne, but now there's no way for him to finish on eoT110 without whipping, he'd have to get to 24 base hpt and that's mathematically impossible, and there are no long-range forests that he could chop into the city. Just need to wait and see if he decides to whip next turn, though I would be extraordinarily surprised at this point if he does.

No surprises at marble island, though Mjmd could have a loaded Galley 3E of the Settler and declare war.

That means I've done everything according to plan on my end, just need to see if it was good enough. I'm not quite as frustrated as I was yesterday, but it would still be quite disappointing for this to fail now.

Scouting:

Plemo's wasting no time flaunting his 3-move Galleys. It seems he and Lazteuq will have a lot of exposure across the water, which means I hope Lazteuq is playing for that Astronomy bulb and manages to give a good accounting for himself. He's been playing competently so far so it would be a shame for Plemo to just walk over him.

Demos:

25% of the world is Buddhist now, and the shrine is making +21gpt. At least that's one thing I can allow myself to be happy about, we can probably get to +30gpt from our cities and passive spreads, then we'll have to see.

Graphs:

We got Mjmd's graphs, and he's not doing great. Low Power, low Food, and mediocre MFG and GNP. If superdeath goes after him along that wide border of theirs, he's in for a thrashing. EP on Lazteuq next, though it'll be slow going.

Abroad, Ramk captured a size-3 city from GKC and kept it. Not a good sign for GKC, it's too bad he's stopped reporting. The issue here is that it could create an opportunity for Plemo to conquer a weakened India later, which would be bad news for the rest of us. Like we'd have to try and dogpile Plemo immediately if we saw that happening, and hope that Lazteuq would join in as well.

Also, superdeath generated a Great Scientist. Curious if he's going for an Academy when he's probably running a real low slider, or going for a bulb or Golden Age. So far giraflorens and I have made Great Prophets (still unclear what gira used his for) and Lazteuq and Mjmd and superdeath have made a Great Scientist. Plemo has a Great Engineer due soon enough, especially if he's running other Rep specialists and is okay with diluting his GPP. Currently no Great People yet from GKC, Ramk, and vanrober, though GKC and Ramk have had Libraries visible for a while now.

Well it seems I misunderstood another mechanic, which is now obvious in hindsight, and so I understand why the lurkers thought it would be inappropriate to correct me. The production readings in the Espionage window don't show the current turn's pending production, so my forecast was always a turn behind. Which means I was only ever going to get a coin-flip with Ramk, at best.

As it happens, we lost the flip. So I waited until the end of turn to play for no good reason and feel like an utter failure.

alright

is the gold good for something?

The hammers weren't applied and are still banked in the city's Wealth build, so I don't get any fail-gold. Another misunderstanding and error on my part. The closest thing I'll have to a useful build for 230 base hammers is Shwedagon Paya.

So, about throwing ~40 pop worth of 3-promo Knights at Plemo...

I recognize that in the past week I haven't been thinking about this game and my relationship with it in a reasonable and sustainable way. Playing Civ is a frivolous leisure activity that should bring joy first and foremost, and the results don't matter one way or another. I need to take some deep breaths, do and think about other things, and sit back down with a healthier frame of mind.

Getting upset because of some bad luck and mistakes, just because I've spent roughly a hundred hours on PB51, is not a place I want to be.

I totally get what you mean.

That hurts, I'm sorry frown Turn 110 for the Mausoleum is quite late though - you can't have everything because you have the need and the potential to continue catching up still.

If you don't need the Paya (My opinion would be, that you only really need it if you are beelining Knights now and therefore want to save beakers otherwise spent on Theology), forge > granary/library would be an alternative. Or a settler with 30 hammers sacrificing to Sid, there are some lovely spots around smile

Cooler heads prevail. 2 Settlers plus change it is.

EDIT: I'll whip out the Settlers elsewhere, the escrow effect of having 230 hammers in one place is too much to ignore. Also, I was counting on the culture to solidify the border there, and I'd like to keep that in play. I think I'm going to tech to the top of the tree, build Shwedagon Paya in Sunol Wilds instead, and tech to Literature for the Epics before re-assessing. Aesthetics is a 3t tech.
