now that Cairo and myself are free(er) do we want to get this started? I feel wholly incompetent regarding game settings, and also regarding whom to ask for mapmaking, so...

So i would like to try to make a map. I am pretty noob in this game and this forum, but im really having fun at lurking and i ve read a lot of inputs of maps, and i would like to try if you all feel fine with it.
Downgrades:
-It will be my first map
-I have not right now the time in case you want this game to happen in some days, it would probably take me 1 or 2 weeks and then ask for help/feedback to lurkers. So it will take long.
I would totally understand you dont feel confortable with this. So dont feel any kind of obligation for this.

Any map would be just fine. You have played FFH2 before right? And I'm in no rush

I can make a map, although would appreciate another lurker to review it, since it would be my first. Also, I would probably balance a randomly-rolled map, rather than starting from 0. If that's OK with you all, I'll get to work.
4 Edit: 5 players, "map to not be small that we met turn 3-4". I'm not familiar with the latest EitB unique features meta. I assume no 7 Pines, no Brigit, anything else?

Should be 5 players, as mackoti isn't listed in the OP
And thanks

I don't mean to insult you, naufragar, so ignore this post if you already know all this. The map generator is geared much more to the vanilla game than to mods, and starts that it considers equivalent frequently aren't. Here's my personal take on the starting neighborhood:
Grains >>> livestock > fish (unless you're a pirate, in which case fish are pretty good).
Calendar resources are generally better than wine, gems, or gold, and both groups are better than pearls or whales (again, unless you're a pirate). Furs and Ivory are very situational, most races will never research hunting.
Unless you're an elf, forests in the starting city are generally bad, especially if they cover bonus resources (forested silk is much worse than not forested, forested grains are just frustrating).
Copper is hugely important. Some of the map scripts will put a player's copper across a strait or on an island, which is a massive handicap.
Starting on a river is a big deal, since it unlocks Deruptus Brew House in the capital, which is usually the best commerce city.
Unless it's a huge map, the location of mithril and gunpowder resources won't matter. Iron is unlikely to matter. Mana nodes are likely to be important.
We generally play with no lairs, no huts, no unique resources. Several of the uniques are "you win" buttons (Remnants, Yggdrasil, Dragon Bones), while Guardian of Pristin Pass can end your game very early. The explorable lairs have the same issues as other lairs, with an even bigger swing potential.

More guidelines are always nice. I plan to make the map ignorant of civ picks, so the goal is that each start will be viable for each civ.

I actually didn't know this. RIP the barb mistform dream. (Joking.) I'll need to know people's preferred difficulty, otherwise I'll default to Monarch.

You can always hope for the volcano event followed by the "Scouts report strange creatures moving within the smoke" event...
On difficulty: I always vote for Immortal, since it gives two free promotions to barbs units built in cities.
