Sounds like there's no rush, try not to stress about it.
Some pretty interesting picks overall. Interested in that opponent analysis? I think I have a decent grasp on most players here.

Great, I'll write it up some time tomorrow. Would you prefer a more active teammate, or a traditional dedlurker? I wouldn't mind doing some simming for this start, or logging in sometimes during the game, if you'd like (although you would still be the main player). Tarkeel maps are always a treat, I sort of regret not signing up for this one, even if I know it would have ended badly.

I'm super happy with a more active teammate! I'm not worried about making my turns in time, but I am finding it more of a challenge than expected to get extra time for stuff like simming.
I haven't had a chance to play a Tarkeel map, but with everyone hyping it up I'm excited!

No problem, I guess this is a pretty hectic week in your part of the world. If you've made a sim, post it here and I'll take a look too.
I think Tarkeel maps have strengths and flaws, like any other. For example, some people prefer more natural maps, which PB60 at least definitely wasn't. But what's really great is that I know he puts a ton of thought into them, trying to make interesting decisions/layouts (for example, I'd expect him to consider Serfdom vs. Slavery). So there's always a lot of interesting decisions to make, and even when I'm not happy about something ( *cough* 6 ocean fish ), I can see some reasoning behind it, which helps a lot.
Edit: Some other civ thoughts in the interest of not tunnel-visioning:
- Ottomans as mentioned.
- Khmer could be good, as could Carthage. I have played them both very recently, which is why they didn't occur to me, but that should not stop you. Carthage especially could be very strong here, as the playstyle encourages classical warfare and city-spam, which is fantastic with our traits. The techs are ideal, too. Fuck, I'm totally talking myself into Carthage as the best pick. Happiness could be tricky though.
- I have a soft spot for England, whose techs are great here (ditto: Carthage). The bonuses come quite late though.
Ultimately, I think you're probably choosing between Carthage and Ottomans, as far as pure power. I don't like Khmer as much as those two, with our leader/start.

If you're super short on time, just locking in a civ based on feel is fine. We can work with what we have. Well, just don't pick Arabia.

Done, we're playing the Ottomans. For better or worse, I'm not super comfortable with a harbor UB so I decided not to do Carthage. Thanks for the tips (and patience!).

No problem. FWIW, I'd be much more likely to build a normal harbour than a normal aqueduct. I think people underrate them. But 2 happiness is much better than a trade route if there aren't many luxuries, and I don't think you made a bad choice. Plus I just played Carthage anyways, so from a selfish perspective this is much better!
Do you think you'll get a chance to make a sim today? If you're still really pressed, I might be able to find the time this evening.

I don't want to promise anything but I think I can get the worldbuilder file together for sure.
