Ah, thanks for the reminder, Mjmd. For some reason, I thought you had changed the quality rather than making the poles navigable.

I mean coast / ocean is considerably better than ice / tundra, so you aren't wrong

That EitB succession game needs to get off the ground and pick the Illians.
In our game, I am a dummy who forgot to take an "after" photo, so you only have the "before":
The hut yielded 40 gold. More interestingly, there's a green, un-irrigated corn 1S of the hut. The land looks pretty fertile so far. Feeling good.
While I'm thinking aloud, I need to redo the math on granaries vs. lighthouses first. My rule of thumb is always granary first, but I don't know how that changes with the Org lighthouse bonus.

A sea, unfortunately. When I get back to the game, I'll take a picture of the new corn. The eastern coast wraps around down south.

Goody huts!? Who thought those were a good idea!?
Ginger popped either Mining or Animal Husbandry from a hut (+2k soldier points).
I again forgot to take a normal picture, so have one for the flying camera:
Looks like there's an equatorial jungle band a couple tiles to the north. Lot of uncertainty out there.

Lots of jungle, but jungle means grassland, so it's ok:
Popped the second hut a while back for 27 gold.
Amicalola, Superdeath, and Gavagai each got a tech. Nobody gained soldier points, so all three of them researched Fishing? Huh. Interesting.

My start is quite weak (only pigs and clams, requiring so many beakers and hammers), but the area around me....
Look at all those luxuries!

Did you end up simming out the start? Interested in when / where 2nd city is getting founded.

Sorry I missed this. I did end up simming the start when I first got your screenshot. I remember I had a plan I liked going 1 worker into first settler. But then... I forgot it. So I came up with another plan that goes for 2 workers first. The first settler gets born t37. Here's the best, most recent pic I have of the capital area:
I'm 99% certain that the first settler goes north, either to its own wheat or to share the pig with the capital. I have three fogged tiles nearby that I still need to scout. I'll use a warrior for that (and hope he doesn't get eaten by the lion lurking there. (My eastern X probably gets bumped 1 tile north, otherwise that city has very few hammers.)
The pigs+clams combo has been really slow. In terms of total food, it's fine, but needing 2 work boats, plus AH, and not having any bare hills to mine in the meanwhile makes this start quite slow. Luckily I haven't found any body yet. I didn't take a good pic of my scouting, but the land to the north forms a giant T. With luck, I can settle up into natural chokepoints on either end of the T.
