Jesting aside though, and amplifying on what Tarkeel wrote, the best naming theme is one which features names you'll remember and that will make your cities more enjoyable to think about, interact with in-game, and post about:  You don't have to post about the names themselves unless that's something you enjoy in its own right, but if it makes the day a little brighter when you can write, "Fierias built a Missionary for Pride Rock" instead of "Mutal built a Missionary for Lakamha" (ahem, yes, I have been involved in cat themes in the past) then you're already winning.  I liked your literature theme, for instance, even though I soon began skipping what you wrote about the books themselves for about the same reason that I long ago stopped reading the politics threads - but the real question is whether you enjoyed balancing unit construction against infrastructure in "War and Peace" and/or sending virtual authors to work digging mines for writing famous books you don't like.

Next on the agenda: a seaside city to be named Venetian Arsenal, and a place with horses for Scythian DoubleHorsemen. I'll have to think of more as I go!

The map so far smells of Tectonics or Totestra. Look at all those plains! But at least I have a strong capital. I'd much rather play with good capital land and bad land to settle in than vice versa.

Adding on to this - I think it would be fun to tie names of Civ 6 exploits to games where said exploit / tactic swung the game. I'm not fully aware of all the games of Civ 6 here so it might be fun to share shorthand stories of how they went.

Some suggestions for city names, if you keep with the theme of broken civ 6 mechanics:
- Stone harvest (preferrably a city near stone): Removing stone resource provides a super chop worth of production, leading into settler/wonder/district completion ridiculously fast. Combine with Magnus for maximum effect.
- Food hills: Grassland hills being a 2 food and 1 production tile doesn't create any imbalances in starting locations at all... (Prepare to suffer with flatland starts)
- Raid economy: Late game raiding with the bonus yield card gives bonkers amount of money/science/culture/faith.
- Longship: For some reason classical era ocean access and ability to raid coastal land tiles is not concidered overpowered by civ 6 devs.
- Tagma crusade: Combining Basil II + crusade religion mops the floor of medieval era opposition.
- District discount: Getting the 40% discount on districts is extremeliy annoying and convoluted to achieve. I had to make a chart to keep track when I should avoid discovering new techs and if I need to delay placing districts to get the discount.

I agree that Scythian light cavarly bonus is absolutely broken. When I first palyed civ 6, I thought the bonus applied only to horsemen (would still be extremely powerful), but it applies to all light cavarly units, including later ones.

Stone Harvest I would just put under Magnus because any +hammers modifiers were crazy with that guy. Still are, really.

I never really tried out Tagma or the Byzantine religion powers. It seems hard at least in SP to get a good religious economy going without any bonuses to Holy Sites. Is it that worth it?

not easy to say where to settle next. this spot shares food with the capital and grabs an early happy, but there's little else to it. the surrounding land is mostly barren and hard to scout.

mmjd is my first spotted neighbor. not ideal. india can be gnarly in early warfare as they have easier chops and can sneak roads through forests with the workers. mmjd also likes to play aggressively on settling borders from what i have seen of his games. but I do not think he will commit hard to an early or late war so long as i make myself look prickly enough. so better than having zulu or ethiopia near.

neighbor 2 spotted, dreylin. i'd say he is a decent neighbor to have as he usually doesn't go for early rushes and his civ is not on the strong side.




I want to put a forward city near mmjd, but the food layout and terrain makes it difficult. Not really a huge fan of making border regions food poor map design wise.

Gavagai scout spotted east of mmjd. hopefully they are neighbors and will keep each other in check, rather than one easily running away with the game.




The first thing you do when starting a new game of Civ6 is hit 'reroll map' until you have something similar looking to the Incan starting bias. This process tends to be especially painful if you pick, say, Nubia.
