Thanks again xist10 and Tarkeel for your help. There's a lot there to read, I'll do so over the next little while.

I've basically played my turn, except for end turn, at which point it occurred to me that you may wish to have input.

I'll leave the turn unfinished for a while in case you want to take a look.

By the way, I don't seem to be getting email notifications for posts to this thread, despite having them turned on. Hence my slow responses!

Where did you founded the city ? What do you research ?
What are you building ?

I can take a look, but I'm a dedlurker and much login isn't that wanted.
Important is the question, how to report.

Pictures, pictures, pictures.
In most cases, the best variant is it to use the Ingame screenshot function (print). You find the screenshots in ../MyGames/Beyond The Sword/Screenshots

For example here.
Picture of the cityscreen.
This shows your city placement, research and built project.
What do you do with your scout ?

Towards research and build order.
In most cases, worker first is a not a bad idea.

Techs are a bit more difficult.
If you can't improve a food ressource, you should research a tech first.
Second point is a strategic ressource. This means bronzeworking or animal husbandry.
BW is better in most cases, because you get access to slavery and chopping.
Furthermore, axe and spear can counter most units, chariots only axemen.

You don't have to post every turn (or even a city screen every turn), but I would say you should take a look in all cities during a turn.

Reporting is something of an art-form, but the best advice I can give is to decide what kind of report you want to give. Pictures are often good, but don't post them without knowing what you want to show. Personally I prefer to focus on decisions made and the reasons behind, so that I can go back and see which wrong decisions I made.

As for the first decisions, worker first is almost always the correct choice, but tech might have some more choices.

On the worker 1st advice, I've always built a warrior first, just in case, then if population isn't about to increase worker. If pop is about to increase, I start something else - usually a granary - then switch to worker after the pop increase.

The warrior 1st thing may be because of a couple of bad experiences early game and unwarranted. Open to more convincing...

this is a nor barb game if I recall correctly, also all players start with a scout (CtH change).

Please verify this in the settings

Good point.

Ok, so on MP mechanics, can I go in to the game and change my production while my turn isn't active? I mean, so it takes effect when my turn is active?

One request was for players to start far (I think it was 15 tiles?) away from each other, so even if they somehow managed to walk straight into your city, you'd be fine building a worker before the first warrior.

This game is being played with simultaneous turns. That means that the turn is active for everyone at the same time; end turn is just a signal that you are ready for the next turn. When everyone has clicked end turn, the next turn will start.

Note that in times of war, it's customary to have a "turn split" where the attacking player either moves first or last, and you should not log in outside your part.

In shorter words, yes you can log in and change production.
