[PB76] Map-making thread

Here's a first draft of starts; they should be pretty similar without being exactly mirrored. Are they too close? let me know.

Start A/North

Start B/West

Start C/East

Start D/Southwest

Start E/Southeast

Overview (don't look too closely on the details); clocking in at 130 tpp

Played: PB58 - PB59 - PB62 - PB66 - PB67
Dedlurked: PB56 (Amicalola) - PB72 (Greenline)

First draft of the entire map; I know I've forgotten to place Uranium, and there is no marble.
For lux, everyone gets gold and silver in opposite directions, ivory at the capital, and four of one calendar-like lux. (Sugar player is balanced by getting less food in the lux area).

Area A/North

Start B/West

Start C/East

Start D/Southwest

Start E/Southeast

Central islands

Silver is one of the last additions I did; not entirely sold on whether it should be there, but IND feels weak with only one metal.
I think the central island is on a fitting power-level, but it can be toned down by swapping the bananas for dry rice. Can also replace the smaller jungle-islands with peaks.

The sugar area is weird to me. You are balancing the food vs the other areas, but it ends up with less commerce so its just worse. Maybe beaver instead which would basically be same as silk. In general I understand the desire to do some trade arounds, but some calendar resources are stronger vs others specifically silk (and beaver if you went with that). Could be to do two different resources in each territory. Could make non river plains hill silver be one of these, or keep as is.

The middle island should be moved north 1 or 2 for both equal access and aesthetics. Can shorten the two islands above it if needed. I'm still uncertain if I like the two tile islands or if they just should be added on as spokes. Can see both.

they probably should ban Viking more than Byzance with this map ?

Good point on commerce for the sugar area; might swap them to furs as you suggest.

Will probably move the mid-island up a tile, and swap out the two-tile jungle islands for a single peak.

As for Vikings.. Yeah, they'd probably be pretty good here, and is why I'm torn about the middle, but I think it needs to be contact-able.

This is why I dislike non-mirroring near-balancing. My immediate reaction was the same as MJ re Sugar vs Dye yields. I've no idea how the balancing works out in doubling happy/health in BTS. I think the central island is fine, personally would make some of the flat land hills to enable better rewards given the jungle is a decent barrier.

The four tiles around the central peak are hills, they are just hard to spot under the jungle.

Here's the updated central island:

Start C:

And area C (sugar->furs)

I added a plainsforest deer for the north and crab for the south.

If there are no objections, I'll likely post the start later tonight.

I don't know how much we care with advanced start, but start B has a forested deer (I believe) in the capital. Realize this is probably intentional to make yield same as the wheats, but just wanted to check.

Usually a very good thing to point out, even on advanced starts, but this is "just" era start. It still matters, but everyone also has a forested deer in the outer ring (on the island). Now they can opt to settle next to it, but I doubt it.
