OK, just one more rules question:

Do ships and planes count as attacking troops? I'm guessing cannons that accompany troops to bombard defenses do count as attacking troops, but what about if I send frigates along instead? How about planes? And carriers, they carry planes, but don't actually fight, do they count?

Sorry for being pedantic, I just don't want to break any more rules than I did in adventure 13 smile.

What tech enables vessalage? Why not just NOT research this so that you can stay in Bureaucracy - or is that too gamey?

Edit addition ...

Ok, well, that clears it up - it is the default setting or Vassalage.

Looks like fun, I definitely plan to take a stab at this. I hope the map isn't as cramped as the original Horse Feathers game! lol

Regarding Vassalage, I assume that you can stay in the default as well (ie not required to run Vassalage)?

Transports and their escorts do not count.

Anything that actually targets the city (or is intended to be part of the force you may use) are counted. Thus you could bring six Cavalry, four Riflemen, and two Frigates for bombarding.

Really, it's very simple. Before you launch an attack, look at your forces. If you don't have 50% Horse/Armor/Copter, you can still attack, but BEFORE YOU BEGIN you figure out which units are not part of the attack group, and then you can't use those on that attack (period, at all, not just this turn but ever) unless you bring up reinforcements or you have been beaten back and are coming at it again later.

Nor can you get away with parking six Cavs, taking in six Rifles, and then when those rifles die, bring in more and more rifles, six at a time. You can, however, replace just the losses when launching your next offensive. So if you only lose the non-horse types, your next target city is a new case and you measure your attack force and reinforcements starting fresh.

I realize this sounds a bit complicated, but hopefully once you've done it once it will be easy to repeat. Also, it's not meant to be the overriding concern. If you are building plenty of the Horse unit types, the rest should be easy to fit together.

This one arrived just in time for me to be able to play it before I leave for Rome.

Always War with variants..... I haven't even played a regular AW game yet lol. I expect to be bruised severely, although archipelago should help.

Is there any reason for the forested peak in the opening shot, or is my eyesight failing at an extremely young age? huh

Wow, so they are. I suppose that's to make the modern promotion game more varied than just all Ambush all the time.

Just a map generating thing. We had a forested mountain in one of our SGs once - cannot chop and I don't think it helps with your health either.
