I agree with your plan DaveV, although I'm actually going to alchemize my power instead to get early buildings up sooner. Then converting the other way to get Just Cause and spells. While Just Cause is good, I feel that getting the four early power buildings (Granary, Marketplace, Farmer's Market, Shrine) earlier takes precedence.
If either of you is up for starting a game with the above specifications (Halfling Life setup), go for it. Else I'll start one on Tuesday.

If there's still time to get into the queue, I'll sign up, but throw my vote to wizard 2 for sounding more interesting to play.

There's certainly still time to sign up (and anyone wanting to join after we start is also welcome), but I think we're settled on wizard #1 as we want an easy ride for the first game. I agree #2 sounds more interesting.

Granary and Farmer's Market both cost money for maintenance, which is really short in the early game. The halflings have a very good growth rate anyway. Shrine and Marketplace are good, but cost a lot of hammers. Just Cause is better than any of them because it gives +1 happy and +10 free unit support.
One of the halflings' greatest advantages is that they can build one building (Armory), then start spamming their super unit. Spending the first 3-5 years churning out support buildings negates this advantage. Build slingers instead, knock over a couple lairs and you can collect enough cash/mana to offset many turns of the buildings' output. Take out a node or tower, and you're off to the races. Conquer a neutral city and you've doubled your economy.

The best way to win an argument: preemption and ignoring the other side . I started a new thread for the game.

Indeed, just doing your own thing is an excellent way to settle arguments Halflings have normal growth rates, and growth is king in the early game. Are you seriously suggesting to build Armoury before Farmer's Market and Shrine?

Yes. Using the smiley doesn't automatically make me wrong =). Spend 340 hammers on buildings, or 280 hammers on two slingers? If the slingers yield more than the buildings, how can they not be the right strategy?

For the answer to that, look at my analysis in the game thread.
