[SPOILERS] PBEM38 Lurker's lounge

Ain't nothing wrong with pre-emptively and opportunistically poking some metal at someone's farmer gambit garrisons. Especially if you think they're going to be hostile anyway. I'd do it too if I saw a chance, but I'd at least try to back it up with some C&D (and flame out at the last minute due to screwing up one variable tongue)

Dave put a huge amount of effort into his T50 'mids plan. Maybe a little too much? It has the benefit of barely edging out Gaspar and hence screwing up his gameplan. Can he catch up from such a crippled development situation off rep scientists, who need a couple of farms/city and that's it?

This is the main problem. You don't WANT people to be hostile to you, and doing stuff like this makes them so. An opponent with a light garrison who you've been at peace with for a long time is one who probably won't attack you. Declaring hostilities hurts them but it also hurts you.

I think he paid too much for them, but we'll see. It's true his leader has put him in a hole, so maybe this is the right way to try to catch up.

I think Dave's mids plan is fine, it was his second city that put him behind.

Amusing to see Dave repeat his Mids ETA in every turn report, whereas NobleGas aren't telling. Anyway, NobleGas haven't started chopping yet, so it's looking promising for Dave.

Didn't they say Turn 54? Tho as you say, they've not said it in a while.

Our mids run didn't cost us in terms of settling, we had settlers ready to go as soon as math was done. Ichabod is tied on top cities with us. I think Dave and Yuri are both squeezed a bit.

This made me laugh, given the Great Plains of France that Davy looks to have secured for himself. It will be interesting to see how the others respond to his graphs if he's able to start successfully settling all that land.

Slightly pointless post, but I don't think Nobes has noticed the extra hammer on Yuri's border city's centre tile. So Yuri settled on iron. I'm always amused when I, a lurker, notice these things before the players do smile

Conversely, I probably miss a ton of stuff in my game and have to be corrected about it later.

Commodore requested input in the lurker thread on how to get MoM as fast as possible. Oasis has a current production of 5, with 2 forests available for chopping. It has another 4 hills available for mining, for a total production of 19 if he gets all those mined, just barely able to feed the city by working all mines. 4 workers are standing by to mine, so it should be doable to get those ready in time. He will also need to get a missionary there to take advantage of OR, giving a production of 23. Each chop will be worth 25 hammers, so the wonder will cost 251 hammers to produce. Even with whip overflow, I don't see how that can be done in 6 turns.

He needs 300 adjusted hammers, so 134 base hammers, to be multiplied by marble and OR. He can overflow 20, chop three forests for 60, chop three third ring forests for ~50. Settle on the marble on the same turn the third ring forests are chopped, but after the chops have gone to Oasis.
I have to run.

Whoops, missed the marble.
