[spoilers] wetbandit Goes 5150 in PBEM 51

Toroids firmly punish early era warfare, UU or not. I'd be more afraid of Retep's temper than his Keshiks. (Haven't read his thread)

Thanks! My main concern with your game (PBEM25?) and this game is the AW setting. I'm frightened that I wouldn't be able to talk my way out of anything and can't get a NAP to save me anyway.

With Toroid maintenance, expansion will be limited, so Stonehenge becomes less useful, in my opinion. REXing will be too costly. I have a 4.5 hour plane flight tonight where I hope to empirically test all of my assumptions.

Always war is generally the most conservative type of game on here. After the initial chokes are cleared, it's usually quite peaceful. At least until the classcal age, that is.

Nice way to kill a plane ride. Let the guy next to you wonder why you're playing the same turns over and over...

OK, I'm back and pictures will follow, not that there is much to show. AH came in and Horse is in the first ring of my proposed 2nd city which shares the sheep and picks up the 3rd ring sheep. Perfect.

I also found Azza to my South, but he's quite far. There is Marble between us, but considerably closer to him.

Quick update since we're playing turns once more (more so cause I'm at the bottom of the thread list):

I've only found Azza so far, and I'm about to unfog the 5150 Parallel, running north-to south, directly through the capital, obviously. There appears to be quite a bit of water around my start; I'm not sure that the Capital's landmass is contiguous with the territory the Scout inhabits. There appears to be quite a bit of water and very nice land on the other side of the water. It's too bad, I won't be able to get over that way anytime soon with the focus on everything but Fishing-Sailing.

Off the top of my head, I grow to size 3 and complete a warrior in 1 turn, along with BW completion. I will start working on a Worker, with tentative plans to whip if I remember the micro correctly as the unhappiness will expire soon anyway.

This has been helpful, hasn't it? Lots of delays lately.

Given the delays in other games, I just realized that I don't have my password in here.

Updates for PBEM51, the quiet PBEM.

The game has had a very slow pace. I don't think there's anyone person in particular who can be blamed; everyone has had their share of messing up an email, getting the save outside their window, or having the dog chew up the keyboard.

We're on T28 IIRC and I've deviated significantly from the original plan. I discovered gold near the horse city. I have such little commerce and wanted to get a port on the larger than expected sea around my land. I decided to settle my 2nd city first ring of the gold and on the water, with horse 2nd ring. I decided to be lazy about popping borders, so I switched to Myst halfway through pottery and ended up putting settler whip overflow and two chops into Stonehenge, which I landed. I'm also 2 turns away from Poly and will use the future GP on a shrine, provided I win Hinduism.

With early happy cap problems provisionally solved, next city goes to copper and then REX. Retep is close enough to my east that I've tried to figure out a good border city, but I'll need copper hooked before I want to try anything. I have lots of land to the South and 2 backline, coastal cities to settle. I may still take a run at Oracle, even without marble, to land MC and then build the Giant Statue of Sea Commerce.

Yeah, things didn't go so well.

Azza caught me with my pants down. Azza showed up with 2 chariots and an Impi about 4 turns ago as I was heading towards improving my copper in my third city to the South. I was running only warriors with a Chariot finishing that turn. I lost my third city and access to metal. Impi choke time. Rushing archery for credible defenses.

I didn't have a sentry towards him in the South as I thought he was too far away to merit attention. Oops.

All is not lost! (Nope, it is) Landed Oracle and won MC. Just now spawned a low odds GE and will bulb Machinery.

Planning to get some barracks in and whip out a mess of Cho-Ku-Nus to take retep's land.

And just to complain, I founded Hindu relatively early and have not got one damn spread. Anywhere.

That's why the gods made OR!

...this is AW, so you won't get external spreads, by the way. Looks like you have a shot still actually. Colossus up?
