Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

Well, I'm out of arguments then. If you want to prioritize what you think is more fun to play, go for it. I think PHI is horrible on this map (and played it before myself, it's too slow to get going), but I'll support you to the best of my ability if you insist. Essentially, PHI/ORG is a win-more combo. I don't know how good a player you are, if you're great then wonderful wink

Micro plan to first city founding in picture form:

SIP Turn 0 and start research on fishing while building a worker

Fishing in, start research on Animal Husbandry

Worker finished and starts farming the wheat, production put into a WB

AH in, start research on pottery

Worker puts a turn into a road while moving to the cows. Capital grows and picks up the grass forest to complete the WB quicker

Worker pasturing cows, switch to FP at capital to grow a turn sooner

WB moves to fish, start a warrior in capital

Pottery done, start research on mining. Worker finishes road segment.

Worker moves to cottage the FP. Production dumped into granary.

Worker started in capital after it grows to size 5

Mining in, start BW

Worker moves to other FP to cottage it

Second worker done, moves to desert hill(Don't worry, in the real game I'll have units protecting it). Settler started in capital.

2nd Worker starts roading

Borders pop just in time for the 2nd worker to start mining the desert hill.

Settler and BW research done. Revolt to slavery.

Second city puts production into a vulture to emergency whip. Capital starts on another worker. Next turn, the second worker can complete the pig pasture.

Looks solid. I'd consider staying at size 3 and getting out the settler sooner, rather than growing to work unimproved FP tiles. When will you be completing Meditation or Polytheism?

There are a couple of reasons its better to grow to size 5:

1) Bare FP aren't bad tiles to work
2) Those bare FP will be cottaged making them awesome tiles to work
3) The worker micro is synched for a later settler build. If we want to improve the pig with an earlier settler, we need to forgo hooking up the copper or cottaging the second FP
4) BW research is synched to be able to revolt to slavery while the settler is moving,

Meditation would be eot32, Poly would be eot33

Which religion do you prefer, and what do you guestimate your chances are of noone else taking it first? Have you tried a run where you stay at size 3, delay Pottery and get an earlier settler?

I guess I could try for an earlier settler, but on a map with such crushing maintenance(5gpt 3 tiles away from capital!!) I think getting those early capital cottages is much more important than faster expansion with little worker support.

I think I like Hinduism, just because it saves us beakers on the way to monotheism and by discourages others from racing us to Judaism. The big question is if it makes sense to get writing before monotheism.

Decided to go with a naming scheme that fits a map where empire's max out at 7ish cities

My main concern is that your religion would fall before t32 or t33. Noone took CRE, I think religion will be in high demand. Do you plan on swapping if a religion falls before you finish it?

There's really no way to speed up Polytheism. If someone takes it before us, poly isn't wasted research because its on the path to monotheism.

Lots of turns being played

Just realized now there's a 1% chance I lose the game if there's a unit on the tile 9-9-9 of the capital. Oh well, very small chance of that. I don't plan on trying to choke anyone, I'd rather play it conservatively and not make any enemies.
