It looks like EitB is what we'll use, then. As long as no one has any objections?
Also, do we want to try out the mirrorland mapscript? I've never used it before. (April 28th, 2015, 17:19)Ventessel Wrote: Also, do we want to try out the mirrorland mapscript? I've never used it before. It's my favorite mapscript, but it would be good to have someone check it to ensure balance. Usually there are several resources that don't appear on the map, and sometimes everyone gets an island start if you use the Inland Seas setting. See PBEM 39 for an example map. Aurorarcher did express a dislike for mirrored maps, so he might be happier with Torusland. See PBEM 33 for a (heavily edited) example.
Mirrorland is by necessity toroidial - mapping both horizontally and vertically, and you can't run it any other way (there are no other scripts that manage mirroring for anything other than 2teams, save for Hall of mirrors, which doesn't really work for more than two players).

Hall of Mirrors is the cylindrical option.
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.
I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.
Ahem. The Grid map is a very good mirror map for multiple players. It's been used in tournaments before.
Download the mirror maps in the EITB 40 appropriate thread. Try them out.
Torusland looks pretty cool to me, love it! SevenSpirits must've put quite a lot of effort to create that one.
Balance regarding key resources should be checked though, sometimes it creates small islands and puts your copper there. If majority prefer Mirrorland so be it - I won't drop out just for that. But I'd personally choose Torusland over Mirrorland any day.
Also, all these scripts generally presuppose BTS views of resources, forests, and so on, which are not the same as FFH. (AH, for example, is significantly worse, irrigation is more valuable, wine/calender is more valuable, forests are more of a nerf, and so on.)
So if you want balancing on the scale I did in '33 (as opposed to the scale I used in '42), the mapmaker needs to consider these. (Not an offer to mapmake.)
