Well, the problem that we were discussing is that it should technically be parsed as 1984 newspeak, but it was used to clue "double + good." The words intended were COMPOUND, BOND, and CROSS. Probably should've contested it, but it gets tricky to draw a line. Birdsong being parsed as Bird + song is certainly fine, but hypothetically, should Pinwheel be able to clue for SAFETY and TIRE?
I think it's pretty clear that that's not allowed. The key rule is that the clue has to be via the meaning of the words. Is the meaning of PINWHEEL related to the meaning of SAFETY or TIRE? If you can come up with a reason, then sure... but I don't think you have one and I don't think your guessers will find one. Ultimately, whether a clue is legal is up to your judgment, but you have to make an honest effort in that judgment and your guessers do too.
So let's say I have a list of all of the official words; would it be against any statute and/or in bad taste towards the designer to post those publicly?
Probably poor taste in the sense that the game owner would prefer them not posted if we asked. I don't think there's any law against it though, and I don't think it's ethically wrong. But, conscience would be most clear if someone with a copy of the game posted them.
Well I own the game and now have a complete list of words. Just trying to decide if I should post the list publicly or just share it privately with people when they set up games.
While playing it here will likely just increase sales the list of words is pretty much the whole IP of the game. I'd stick to private sharing for game makers to cover yourself and help prevent real-life rip offs.
