CivPlayers, WePlayCiv and Apolyton are dead

Weplayciv does indeed appear to be dead. I don't recommend visiting, the site has been replaced with a malware download.

Well, Apolyton's forums are still up. I'm assuming that Aeson is changing the front page now. This thread is now pointless. I'll let Sullla have the honor of closing it. In sum:

Apolyton: Front page is down but forums are up.
CivPlayers: Front page is up but forums are down and it isn't going to get better so it's dead.
WePlayCiv: Totally dead.

Edit: The reason why it's totally pointless is because Apolyton isn't dead and no one here cares about CivPlayers or WePlayCiv.

Apolyton did have a problem with the front page. I didn't bother trying to figure out what it was because we were moving to vb5 and a new server. This move was prompted by an email from Google which notified me that at some point in 2017 all sites that accept user details (login, password, etc) must use HTTPS or it will be flagged as unsafe in Google search and in Chrome.

So all forums are going to have to make the switch or get those annoying flags. I think that might be why WePlayCiv keeps getting flagged recently in Chrome and has "this site may be hacked" in Google search.

RB will need to make the move to HTTPS as well I would suppose.

WPC was hacked. I (and Bob) went their and I saw a malware download.

It's fixed now. smile

Apolyton was a lot of fun back in the day. It must have been around 2005 when I was a junior in high school when I played my first democracy game on there, ACDG3 as the Spartans (I used to go by "Zeiter" I think). Our team was fantastic with the roleplaying, writing a regular news column in character, etc. And we won, which was fun too. wink

I think I can be at once the douchebag some guys here think I actually am, by taking some credit for the death of the WePlayCiv and Apolyton Civ4 pitboss multiplayer activity. I won several games in succession on both sites and I think the veterans there got fed up and stopped playing. Some said it outright "I will not play any more games if you and Sommerswer do not agree to a reload" (after we frustrated them by virtuously sinking their whole combined fleet), some gave a hint about it "aren't you tired of winning each and every game?" and some were just too nice to ever comment at the reasons they do not want to play anymore games.

Apolyton's off- topic and politics threads are well alive and active, it is just people do not play Civ4 MP. Apolyton also have live and thrivving Civ4 pitboss Spanish language community though with more pitbosses that here being played at each given time.

So this is where Sullla can still be found.

It was all truly fun while it lasted. Apolyton's golden age circa 2001-2006 was a fantastic experience, and most of the rest was also great.

Yep, still here. We have a very active community for both Civ4 and Civ6, although both are tilted towards Multiplayer activity these days. Lots of other games with active interest too in other parts of the site. We're always happy to have others join in, especially anyone from the Frankenstein group. smile
