Civ6 PBEM3 Organizing Thread

You are right and I am not even sure I can blame it on the autocorrect function

Nah. All that balancing and editing has not helped in civ4. You still see endless posts in our civ4-games whining about oversights by the map-editor or about neighbour-placements/actions. (like civ x build wonder y to get conquered by player z. or my neighbour whips everything to the ground while player a gets an easy conquest etc ad inf. ad naus.)

IMO Accept that map might suck but still it is more fun to play vs humans than vs AI. And yes that can mean to have little chance to win right on T1. But where is life there is hope so who knows how a game develops wink?

I agree with Rowain, I prefer we just play some random map than spending a long time crafting one. The only balancing I'm really okay with is taking a cursory look at the Capitals to see if everyone gets at least some hill tiles. But if that'd be too much work, I'm fine without it. Though, if people prefer a crafted map, I don't object to it, I'd just rather we start the game sooner.

Just a point of debate: do you guys want to play with declarations of friendship on? I don't like the idea of 30 turns enforceable non aggression pacts, so I'd favor we ban them, but I'm okay with leaving them on.

Regarding Civ picks, I like the idea of giving every player 3 options to choose from.

Finally, it seems we have 4 players already signed. I think 5 players is the best number, but I think 4 is enough, if no one else is up to the challenge.  pimp

Random maps is fine for me, especially as there is no map editor as far as i am aware.

Do we stay with the vanilla CIVs and Aztecs and ban Rome as in PBEM2?

We didn't ban Rome in PBEM2, it was simply not chosen by oledavy who went for Greece (Gorgo) instead, from 3 possible civilization picks. (although I don't exactly know why he made this choice, since I am yet not allowed to read his thread).
But well, it is choice of participants whether they want ban civilizations or not.

Banned were Sumer + Scythia and all DLC except Aztecs. Rome is IMO ban-worthy but if others wants it in game no problem.

I like the 3 civs option to pick from setup. About DoF: Since they are visible to all I'm ok if they stay in.

This is very true and I am enjoying PBEM2 even with all its imbalances. If you play SP, you play against yourself more than anything. Hope you guys will enjoy PBEM3. I think Civ6 has great potential for MP if the UI and some serious bugs get ironed out.

If you're looking for a 5th player I'd be interested -- I've got no MP experience and generally play builder games on Prince, but I figured I'd try to start stretching my wings a bit.  I did participate in a few Civ III adventures here as "notoptimal" but over time I lost both the email address and the password.   rolleye

A "lacakdaisical" turn pace suits me just fine - PBEM 2's pace, particularly on the weekends, is beyond my available time.  I'll have about two weeks towards the end of October where I'd be completely offline if things last that long.

Cheers,

Great, it seems like we have a full roster. jive

I guess we can start talking about settings. I have to admit that I'm eager to start. Mostly everything works for me, so I defer to what you guys choose. I'd be incredibly grateful if you decide the picking method early, so I can start thinking about it (I'm getting antsy already).

Ok I summarized the available civilizations below and am willing to randomize them among us. Please check and confirm that my civilization list is complete. If there is a lurker offering himself to do the randomization, that would be very welcome for me.

1    America / Teddy Roosevelt
2    Arabia / Saladin
3    Aztec / Montezuma
4    Brazil / Pedro II
5    China / Qin Shi Huang
6    Egypt / Cleopatra
7    England / Victoria
8    France / Catherine de Medici
9    Germany / Frederick Barbarossa
10   Greece / Pericles
11   Greece / Gorgo
12   India / Gandhi
13   Japan/ Hojo Tokimune
14   Kongo / Mvemba a Nzinga
15   Norway / Harald Hardrada Banvote: yes 3 / no 1 (suboptimal still to vote but decision has been taken by majority)
16   Rome / Trajan Banvote: yes 3 / no 1 (suboptimal still to vote but decision has been taken by majority)
15   Russia / Peter
18   Spain / Philip II Banvote: yes 3 / no 1 (suboptimal still to vote but decision has been taken by majority)

For the randomization I would use this website http://graphpad.com/quickcalcs/randomize1/
The first function allows to randomize 3 entries on 5 groups for a total of 15 entries as above.
For my part I think the easiest way is to assign the created groups to the turn order of players.

That brings up another important topic, the turn order, I think we should organize based on location and timezone, so we can improve the turn handover as best as possible. As stated, I am in CEST/CET (UTC+2/UTC+1 in winter) and will be most likely be able to take my turns in the afternoons/evenings (after 17:00) over here.

Turn order suggestion (by Kaiser)
Kaiser / preferred 15:30 UTC - 22:00 UTC
Rowain / preferred 17:00 UTC - 20:30 UTC
Bacchus / preferred 17:00 UTC +a couple hours (any idea until when you have time, I put Rowain first because his window looks smaller)
Ichabod / preferred 21:30 UTC - 02:00 UTC
Suboptimal / preferred 21:30 UTC - 03:00 UTC

Earliest starting date was 08.06.2017, correct?

Sulla offered to roll the map for us alright

current preference for the map settings would be:
Game Speed:       Standard
Difficulty:             Prince
City states:          10

Map size:             Small (for up to 6 players)
Map type:            Pangea
Start:                  Balanced
Everything else:   Random (or Sullas choice to achieve a balanced map)
Huts:                  no (3 votes for no huts Bacchus, Rowain and me)
Barbarians:          yes
