Hello there, I hope I am not too late for the party.
Japper suggested to team up with me on this one, and a teamgame sounds good to me.
So if you guys don't mind someone new to Realms Beyond joining you, I would like to participate

Ok, I edited the first post and it looks like we have 8 players already. That is fast. If there would be additional interest, would a fifth team be viable or would it make the game incredibly slow in terms of turnaround?
As for team composition, I only confirmed Japper and Mikeforall to be in one team. Archduke requested to be in a team with Woden or myself. The other idea would be to have teams with Japper, Archduke, Woden and myself in separate teams and the rest joining those teams. Are there any preferences or shall we draw lots etc?
I looks as if all are open for DLCs. We could do the usual random allocation of sets of civilizations for players to choose from. In this scenario, I would suggest to have civilizations for each team, where team members decide on two teams to play with.
Would there be any civilization we would ban?
Once we get more stuff confirmed, we might want to look into a person who would make a map for us. So far, it looks as if cornflakes and Sulla are the ones who did that. Any other member that we could approach?

I am ok with adding a fifth team. I don't know if it would slow down things but am looking for a more relaxed game then our previous games.
I like the idea of a pool of civs per team. There are a total of 20 vanilla civc (include Monty) plus 7 DLC, right? If we include DLCs, we can exclude 3 civs to given each team a pool of 6.
Edit: I am a little scared of the possibility of having to go to war against a team of Singaboy and TheArchduke.

There are 8 dlc civs
Nubia / Amanitore
Norway / Harald
Indonesian / Gitarja
Australian / John Curtin
Khmer / Jayavarman VII
Macedonian / Alexander
Polish / Jadwiga
Persian / Cyrus
EDIT: with 10 players the game pace will be pretty slow i am guessing. I would vote more towards 4 teams max.

Harald was one of the 20 vanilla civs. The Vikings DLC was a scenario only DLCs. I guess technically Monty was a DLC but I consider him a vanilla civ since it was only a pre-order bonus for a month.
Edit: If we want to make sure teams get 2 "DLC" civs, we could add one of the "usual" banned civs to the group like Gilly or Scythia or we can be true to DLC and add Monty to the group.

Ah i did not know that.
I think that would be fine, won't know until the total player count is set though.

I would also caution against more than 8 players; this is already abnormally large for a PBEM, best not to try and get too many in at once.

Alternative idea for civ pics, we now have a perfect setup to do a snake pick. A B C D D C B A. Just figure out if we need to do any bans, roll teams, and we're ready to go.
I'd be fine with any one of you as a teammate. We could always get someone to roll random pairings for those of us without one already?
Though if we do want to balance it out, I think Japper, Woden, Singaboy, and Archduke being the ones with experience each having a less experienced teammate would maybe be more *fair*

Ya i like the pick idea and it is something different. Also agree the vets should have a newbie to carry through the game lol.
EDIT: i like the idea of shared continents for each team, what are we going to do considering city states then? each continent gets 2 with the rest being out in the open waters?
EDIT: I also think it would be cool since there will need to be a lot of map making corrections if we go with some changes that make the civ picks a little harder.
Some civs are completely map dependent and if we are editing the map might be cool to make some "lesser civs" become viable choices.
For instance Spain becomes much better if the 3 other teams are guaranteed to be on a separate continents.
And Norway becomes great if all cs require boats to meet.
