Japper and Alhambram go bongo bongo in the Kongo [Spoilers within]

The conservation civic forests do indeed allow Mbanza placement. That is a ways off though ofc.

Screenshots didn't take, but I revealed little of interest on the first turn anyway. There is some rice and lots of jungle/forests above the horses, so that is about 90% of a locked in second city spot.

Sounds good about that second city spot!

Can you post screenshots of lands next turn, also of Great People screenshot to see who is in line, especially Great Artist. And how is scores? Suboptimal and RFS-81 plays before you so if their empire score is 0, that means that they moved settler similar what we are doing now.

Heh, I am always carving for information, scores numbers. But they can fool you, that I did experience in several PBEM's already. lol

I was able to retrieve the screenshots after all, will have a gander at the demo and GP situation as well when I get the save back. Don't hesitate to ask for those btw, I forgot to check those often enough.

Ah right that reminds me we also picked up an extra deer in the capital with the move, at the edge of the fog in the North.

Okay here's the demo's and Great People screens (didn't discover anything particularly interesting):

Everyone but us settled in place it seems.

Both the GS and Great Merchant are decent but not something to pursue outright. The Engineer is a dud (not that we are going for Iz's anytime soon anyways) Gen and Admiral are solid but what else is new there? GWAM's are all pretty much identical, though it's too bad the early GA isn't a sculpture one to benefit NKisi.

As for the turn itself I started with a Slinger to allow more time for border expansion (maybe even go Slinger-Settler?) before Builder. Initial tech is AH-Mining. I had the choice of working a 2/2 or a 3/0, so I opted for the former. Both second pop and Slinger are exactly 7 turns away, so Slinger-Settler is indeed possible.

A Dutch painter, but too bad he specializes into religious painting, I did go to exposition about him in Den Bosch when it was year of Bosch (500th anniversary of his death in 2016).

That aside, there is another stone resource and right at 2nd tile of Mbanza Kongo! Also another 2Icon_Food1Icon_Production rainforest tile east of city, also Mbanza there or do you want one Mbanza per city?

I agree with slinger, after that...though decision settler or builder. Cornflakes once stated that it is best to produce builder first when all of first three improvements get extra production.
Here I see it good use for stone tile, but cow tile is so, so, so. In PBEM 2 first tile that I did improve was a cow tile, only to never use that tile afterwards since all other tiles were simply better!
Mostly it is better to farm rice and floodplains to grow or regrow faster. In that perspective I think settler first before builder here because builder is going add too few cogs to bring out settler really faster.

When builder is out after settler, actually do improve cow tile due God of Open Sky Pantheon that we shall get after 25 turns if we don't stumble upon religious city state.
Since we are doing settler-builder here, it don't matter what is first AH or Mining. After those two what? I see two options, if other players is close, Bronze Working. If not, Pottery-Writing.

About Great People, indeed nobody really worth to go after. GG is always good option. I did mention that we need GS to get eureka for Education, so it don't matter which GS.
Aryabhata can be useful for getting eureka's for northern tech tree that I advice to do it after getting Guilds. In case that we don't use naval related things much in this PBEM, Aryabhata can be useful to rush towards Cartography.
Get Aryabhata and don't use it asap but wait till most of eureka's of other techs are fulfilled and only those we have difficulty to pull off, use it. Most ideally when there are 3 or 4 classical and/or medieval techs left.
Education is a renaissance tech and it is going be while before we reach that tech, till that time we can store Aryabhata till right moment to use him.

And why do I have feeling that rho21 is going for Homer. lol

Yeah I had the same idea wrt Builder vs Settler. Builder first or second really only pays off if you can add a cog or a food to a tile you'd want to work anyway. Here we are going to be okay working natural 2/2 tiles for quite a while.

On Mbanza as I've said before I don't really build them for the housing, but for the food and gold yields, so yeah at the capital i'll probably Mbanza the two flatland jungles and chop-mine the other two.

I would lumber mill forest one tile NW of Mbanza Kongo instead chop-mine, riverside lumber mill gets extra Icon_Production, so when finishing machinery and build lumber mill there it becomes 2Icon_Food4Icon_Production tile and mine just 2Icon_Food3Icon_Production at that moment.
Mines can reach that same yield when reaching industrialization which is far away. Also building lumber mill once gives eureka for mass-production.

Do we stay using Kongo city names and our capital name stays Mbanza Kongo or a another naming scheme?

If you have an idea for a naming scheme, sure. Only one I could think of was Jungle-themed movies* (as we are besides Brazil the only faction that actually likes jungles) but it is pretty similar to the jungle-inspired literature theme I already did in pbem7.

Apocalypse now
Jungle Book
The Ghost and the Darkness
Zulu
Forrest Gump
etc...

Pogchamp  That is almost too good for a second location! 6 high yield tiles, 2 amenities, 2 horses.  jive
