Epic Three - Rise of the Incans - Info Thread

Consulting the "Handy-Dandy Map Script Guide"™ over at CFC, I do see just how dissimilar they are and that encourages me, but really it will probably depend mostly on actually when I finish Epic2 smile ... if I'm still playing on Monday and reporting through the rest of the week (like my previous events) then I'll probably skip the Large-mapped Epic in 3.5wks and play one of the Adventures while waiting for my ritualistic slaughter in Epic4.

Guess we'll see....

Hi,

Wow, this game is still played? Are there still two expansion released per year? There have to be a gazillion different cards now... eek

I have two strong memories relating to Magic: I have experienced the worst luck I ever had during my gaming career during a Magic tournament, and I have made a very bad desicion involving when to sell my cards.

Back in 1994/1995 or so, some friends and I dominated the local tournament scene over here - we won nearly every tournament held in a 200km radius around Bonn, being the source of frustration to many competitors. tongue But during the tournament I cared for the most, the first (or second? I forgot) official German championships where the champion and the vice champion would win a free flight to the world championships in the US, I had the most horrible luck one can imagine, like if you lose three 99% fights in Civ 4 in a row. The tournament had 256 participants, and I made it to the semi-finals quite easily. The semi-finals and finals were best of three, and...during both games of the semi-finals, I drew only lands. Lands, nothing but lands. No creature, no spell, only lands. (I think I got some disenchants during the second game, but that didn't help...). Not that my deck had too many lands: Quite the contrary, as I had seen during the previous rounds, it actually had too few. But I lost that semi-finals because I drew nothing else! rant My opponent asked me afterwards what kind of deck I had been playing, as he hadn't been able to guess from these two games...argh. Judging from the deck of the later German champion, I would have lost the final, but my deck was better than that of my opponent in the semi-final, so I lost a free visit to the US to bad luck...and stopped playing altogether shortly afterwards.

By that time, I had already sold most of my cards. Hey, people were paying up to 40$ for certain cards I had plenty of, so why not? How long would it take until people realized how stupid they were? For crying out loud, these were simple paper cards with pretty pictures on them! 40$ for a Black Lotus and 30$ for my Mox cards - it can't get higher than that, can it?

Yeah right... rolleye I underestimated how stupid people really are. When I attended the Essen game fair last year and saw what my cards would have been worth now (around 30000$...), I wept...

Anyway, sorry for the off-topic stuff, but T-hawk's post invoked some nostalgia in me... wink

I'll take the Magic tangent over to the general forum. smile

This isn't worth its own thread, but since I've already hijacked this one...

Came across this hilarious little gem. Check the first image in the third row on that link. The Yahoo Travel website, for its entries on the Persian city of Pasargadae, managed to pick up an image from one of my Civ 3 reports. [Image: crazyeyes.gif] [Image: crazyeyes.gif] [Image: crazyeyes.gif]

Just out of curiosity, were the opposing civs picked for nostalgic RB reasons? In other words, were they the opponents in the original "Rise"?

Because I would have included Spain in a game entitled "Rise of the Incans" lol

I once read an interesting alternate history novel in which the Aztecs conquered (or nearly conquered) the world, becoming a powerful modern age power. Forget the book, but I've been wanting to role play the rise of a mighty ancient age civilization for quite some time wink

By gum, I think I'll play this one. And I'll try to finish it, too!

And I'll make sure that my save files are done so thrice!

And I'll make sure that I don't try to slip in a playing session before class!

And... (several hours later)

Crap! Forgot to go to class!

In other news, the UCLA Bruins now have 99 NCAA championships. They only need one more, ONE MORE, to be the first school ever to get to 100. That is all.

EDIT: Scratch that. No time. frown

I can offer the advice of someone who reported about several losses back in the Civ 3 days: Even if you think you "suck", tell us about your game anyway! First, that is the best way for you to get better, and second, reports about lost games are very often a lot more interesting to read than boring "cruise to victory" reports.

I really hope to read some reports from you and all the others who think they are too bad! Here at RB, it's more about reporting and learning than about being the best player. smile

Would love to read your report. I'm interested in how you did so far...
