[SPOILERS] Donovan Zoi and AdrienIer: Slümhund Millionaires!

Yeah I'd like to get 2 or 3 cities on the western island before the others get them

We're last to play, you'll forgive me if I play the turn to get things rolling I suppose.

I'll be out of town this weekend (starting tomorrow afternoon) and have no idea how available I'll be until sunday night

Ok in the end I decided to 2-whip the settler in the cap. We were working a river grassland again and it hurt my eyes. More importantly a rise in our food output will only come with more settlements. I put the overflow into a FW for now (because +35% bonus hammers is better used on overflow) but feel free to change it. I didn't play the second turn.

In foreign news Retep made some pretty aggressive chariot moves that I decided to let go. It may be a test (I hear some players do that sometimes to know if a neighbor is friendly) or it may be unintentional, and in any case the city isn't threatened with an archer and chariot in the galley ready to disembark next turn.

When you were talking about the landbridge were you thinking about this spot ?

Cos this spot, while a bit farther away, is pretty nice too.

Might as well do an FW in SF now, as it is Carillion's turn to grow. I worked the river grass because we need all the commerce we can get but was hoping to never see our capital at Size 5 again. I am sure it will work out.

Also, no Spear going to NF? That was the whole idea of sending the Galley east. Now we have one less Chariot for Elkad and I guess we can truck the Spear down to Ste Foy, escort the Settler or wait until the next Galley is built.

Yes, on the landbridge.

Settle the Gavagai site one tile lower and he doens't get a Stone city. We could fort the tile N or NE for another landbridge.

We're not in bureau so the size of the cap doesn't really matter, it's mostly a question of which tiles we work. There was no spear around (the one in Duquesne couldn't get in the galley and be in NF next turn), but if Retep backs down next turn the galley can disembark the chariot N of the cap and the archer in NF, take the settler and a worker and move west.

Turn 85 - 750 BC

Cue the melodrama.....

OUR DARK AGES

I am really trying my best to put a positive spin an the last two turns, but they were really kind of a mess. To give you an idea of how I do things, there are times when I try to synergize units several turns in advance so that certain objectives can be met. Whenever possible, I try to communicate the big picture here in as much detail as possible without going total micro. If both of us are going to play the turn, then I really need to change my method of communication.

This was one of those crucial turns where I had several different things lined up in order for us to coorinate objectives re: NF defense and Galley/Settler movement. And from my understanding, the turns were to be relinquished to me for the time being so I chose not to tag anything in game. Instead, I did my best to let you in on my plans in the city by city guideline. However, in many cases you did the opposite of what I had posted here.

Queue: Settler in 4 (may 1-whip in 2 turns)> Spearman > FW

I may delay the Settler whip since our Galley will be pre-occupied to get an Archer and Spear over to NF. Gavagai, retep and Joey all have Horses now, so it's time to guard our perimeters with Spearmen. Building one will also give SF a chance to grow back to Size 7. FW is also needed since our capital is could use more Cottages (this one got away from me, honestly).

While I was initially upset with this, it seems like a quick FW may make up for it. However, the loss in pop in our capital is now giving us our worst demographic numbers yet (4th in GNP, 5th in production). Even with the one bad tile in SF, the whip could have waited at least a turn.

The reason I wanted to wait until next turn (and possibly later) is 3 fold:
1. The Galley was not ready to transport yet because I had it going 1NE to load the Spear from Duquesne.
2. There was no reasonable garrison unit ready to sail with the new settler.
3. New cities plummet our gpt, making binary research a slow endeavor so there was no rush (even though there is).

Queue: Spearman (1) > Galley > Settler > Work Boat

Spearman will go to Niagara Falls since retep is making his presence known. He is only 2 tiles from our borders, but we have an Axe and Chariot to counter him for now. Galley and Settler pairing will be nice to capture Deer/Clam city at North Pole, since it has two first ring food tiles.

When I logged in to play the "second" turn, the Spear was still in Duquesne, having never even left the city yet. Instead a Chariot was sent to the Galley with the Archer (more on that in a moment). scared

Then despite your lack of interest in building the Settler for the north pole, you started on the prerequisite Galley instead of a Chariot. I kept the Galley build and will follow though on the Settler next because the site has two first ring foods.

Lastly, I was surprised to see one of the Chariots I have been hiding for most of the game guarding a worker when we could have just shifted the Axe over. Why plant the idea to Elkad that we have Chariots in the area?

And then this happened...

WTF Donovan!

In a karmic judgment against my self-righteous attitude displayed above, an apparent right click on my part killed the plan to unload our troops in NF. Then I stupidly unloaded both units in a panic when I should have just unloaded the Chariot, since the Archer could have been dropped off next turn via the Galley's return. Spearman is also ready to board Galley next turn before it heads back west.

So here is where we stand at the moment:

1. A stranded premature Settler in SF until our wayward Galley comes back. But at least it is built and we will get more binary gold in the meantime.
2. Units scrambling to a vulnerable NF due to my f-up.
3. No clear mandate on what to do with Elkad.

Sorry for venting, but this is kind of why I feel one person should be dedicated to play the turns. Even now, I have daisy chain instruction for FWs and am working on how we are going to garrison the landbridge site with upcoming Carillion Settler. But I really don't want to obscure the map under all those tags!

If you have any ideas on how to resolve this for the future, please feel free to let me know. In the meantime, this too shall pass, and I know we will rebound from it.

I was a bit hazy last night, a combination of having had a long day of ensemble theory and some remaining jet lag. In truth I probably shouldn't have played the turn at all, especially once I saw the Retep chariots. Sorry...

The good news is that I'll be out of town until sunday evening, so no one will tamper with the game for the time being wink

Game related comments will come later today when I get some time. Is Retep still at war with Grimace ?

N°1 I didn't see (the spear had been around for a while no ?) N°2 I don't think we need garrison for a completely unclaimed island (or at least not as a priority) N°3 it would get us ivory to help our happy cap

A second galley is a good idea even without the deer site, to have one be our link with the NF continent and the other with the western continent. It gives us flexibility.

This I admit is a stupid mistake of mine. My first thought was "oh an unescorted worker on Elkad's border better protect it with a chariot" before I realized that there was nowhere an Elkad chariot could hide to snipe him and a chariot on a galley wouldn't have odds on the axe. So yeah worse than pointless because if Elkad forgot to build spears before I doubt he will now.
