[SPOILERS] Donovan Zoi and AdrienIer: Slümhund Millionaires!

(May 7th, 2015, 02:21)Donovan Zoi Wrote: If you have any ideas on how to resolve this for the future, please feel free to let me know. In the meantime, this too shall pass, and I know we will rebound from it.

I think part of our problem comes from our timezones. There are few moments where we're both online. But it will change from now on because my classes are ending and while I have exams coming I'll be available pretty much from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to sleep.

Do you have google hangout ? Chatting is a good way to exchange informations, it would solve lots of communication problems.

Turn 87 - 700 BC

I have gmail, so I am sure I should be able to set up a Google Hangout. Let me take a look. smile

Sorry for being so dramatic yesterday. Looks like everything will be fine: no engagement from retep and no spears from Elkad yet (he had 2 Axes at the Hague and now back to 1, hopefully en route to his eastern frontier).

Western Migration

Got to play two turns at the roll, and we have units gradually heading west to make a play for the islands. I definitely want garrisons for the landbridge city if we are lucky enough to snag it. I think the best migration tactic will be to have a Galley (eventually 2 if needed) just off our western shore near SF and just drop units into it. In doing so, we will have a strong presence on the island sooner than I would have imagined.

No Gavagai Troll Site

Gavagai dashed our dreams of a troll site by founding somewhere south of our projected locations. I really didn't expect to make it though, and still think we can place the other 3-4 cities on that island if we are aggressive enough in doing so.

Ivory and Wines

Our Settler will land on the Ivory site next turn and found it the turn after. I brought a Chariot along just in case retep has Sailing, even though it may not be necessary.

I am still intrigued by settling on the Wine site near retep, as it does have 2 food sources that would share with other sites (IIRC). Mostly to keep retep from fully surrounding our Stone site. But we will have to see if retep snags it by then. I don't mind losing it, like we spoke earlier.

Beyond Our Means

I am thinking that, where sensible, we should start to grow the Big 3 beyond their current happy caps so they could still be at Size 7-8 after we 2-whip the Markets. I'd have to see what a short term drop in production would do for us, but we should be fine.

Currency

We have 218 gold now and can get Currency in 5 turns at 100% (-52gpt). I left it at 100% but am thinking of going back to change it to 0% since we still fall a bit short. This would give us Currency in 6 turns, and get us back on track in the tech race again.

Judging by the diplo screen, Commodtay is still the only player with Currency. Incidentally they have been whipping quite a bit over the past 2-3 turns, so I am sure they are getting Markets running.

1. Build Stonehenge
2. Slowly accumulate GP points
3. ...
4. Prophet!

We finally got our Great Prophet on T86, but I too am conflicted on how we should use him. My first instinct before checking on our Currency ETA was to initiate an ill-advised early GA to research it faster, while also help to fuel our Settler expansion. But from the outset, I still believe that we are going to get one of the remaining religions and will likely not have another shot at a Prophet if I can help it (Academies for 3-4 cities that deserve it would be huge!).

So I think for now, he will just stay in the capital until we win the race to CoL or Theo. Getting Currency opens us up to CoL right away, but I am still interested in MC and Construction more. It may also be nice to review how quickly we can get IW > Calendar as well, as IW is getting pretty cheap. We can have that talk over the next few turns.

Went back in and changed research to 0% for one last time. We need to go to 100% on T88. Almost there!

A map trade from Joey was awaiting me when I entered the game. I figured that we are no longer contesting him for land., plus we could build goodwill and get some intel on other civs. I'll try to post some pics soon of any significant map updates soon.

Keep in mind that the new city will raise our expanses, so we might end up short on gold. You should still go 100% next turn it's just that we could maybe need another turn.

Good to hear that things aren't as bad as they could have been

I logged in to see that our empire is in good shape except for the part where we have almost nowhere to expand and are almost 100pts behind Commodtay. Their landgrabbing towards Retep still baffles me.

We really need to take cities from Elkad. Still only an axeman in the Hague : awesome.

Not really. retep is Imperialistic so it makes a bit of sense that Commodtay would try to limit their expansion the way we (somewhat) did with Joey. More on our troubles with retep in a moment.

Yes, I switched to Chariot mobilization again for the following reasons:

-GJ is at war with HAK at the moment.
-Elkad currently has his Copper disconnected. eek

Not sure on the reason for the latter unless he is planning for cheap HR happiness. But he is not in the civic at the moment. Any ideas on that one?

To counter this, I have made the following changes:

-Duquesne: from Settler to Chariot (every 2 turns)
-Oswego: Chariot in 3
-Bringing Chariot back from NF
-Bring Chariot scout back from north pole island (only another source of Furs present).
-Will be sending 2-3 FWs back to Duquesne. The idea is to make them look busy while really being staged to build a quick roadnet if we can take Rotterdam first.

I think we can make this happen in 4-5 turns with 6 Chariots, 4 FWs and 2 Axes. Rotterdam is obviously the wild card here.

I also think we need to take on this plan regardless of what happens to our west.

Speaking of which.....

Not sure if you saw when you logged in, but retep made another aggressive move by putting a Galley 2 tiles away from our as-yet-unsettled hill site for the Ivory town. What concerns me is that for the last two turns, retep has finished last and taken great care to log out before playing the new turn. So it seems that he is locking in turn order for something.

I spent a long time weighing the pros and cons before ultimately deciding to settle the new city of Quebec. This further decimated our binary research (-63 v. +18) but I put Currency at 100% now for 5 turns. I am so tired of not making progress on it, especially when the need for production and military techs seems imminent. Once our cities grow a bit, there is still a slim chance we can get Currency in 5 even if we have to work some suboptimal water tiles for a turn.

Anyway, back to Quebec. There are two ways this can play out:

1. retep is just guarding the Wine location

If so, no harm no foul. It will just be a pain to support Quebec against such proximity since its the full 5 tiles from our capital. Plus we would need some naval back up in the area, so IW after Currency looks promising for Triremes.

2. retep boats and burns Quebec next turn

Pretty unlikely, but if he does it will set the tone for the rest of our relationship.

The only reason I think this may be possible is because retep has had his Chariot scouting the hill 2N of Quebec for the few turns. Also, the apparent turn order lock. And if this does happen, we'd need to decide if we want to stay in an unprepared war or make peace in order to serve up my favorite cold dish at a later time. We may also need to prioritize IW (Triremes, Swords) over MC after Currency, and then have a talk about Construction because I will not let something like this slide.

Oh also, can you get us the next wave of historical city names? I was hoping to stay away from familiar names like Quebec but forgot to request this from you in time. Thanks!

Aren't triremes at MC ?

I understand why Commodore would want to box in Retep, I just don't get why Retep let him. Look at how far GJ was when we blocked him. If he decides to attack us, the biggest army in the world, I'm giving up on his sanity (which is annoying given I'm starting a PBEM against him).

Have we gone through all the names I gave you ? I'll look at the war of independance then I guess

You are right, I think it requires both. We'll stay with MC then.

Haha, I guess we'll see. One thing I did fail to mention is that his last turn only took about 5 minutes so that would be extremely crazy to come at us with such little prep. Wish I would have seen that earlier though, I could have gone to bed earlier. duh

Yeah pretty much everything left is current cities and a bunch of dudes' names. And there were RL historical factors that hit too close to home for me to name it Corlar. lol

War of independance :

Fort RedBank
Savannah
Cape Henry
Yorktown
Chesapeake Bay

Most of the war was actually about outmaneuvering the enemy, there were very few real battles after the French intervention.
