League of Legends General Discussion Thread

Given all this drama, it has piqued my curiosity. If I'd like to spend an hour or two learning how LoL works, where should I start? Are there some well-narrated Youtube videos and/or some illustrated articles? I'm not sure how interested I am in playing too heavily, but I'd like to understand the game well enough to watch one of these games and have half a clue what's going on.

It just depends on what you are playing for. In the NBA/NFL/MLB, the championship itself is valued. While there are bonuses for winning the championship, the money is generally not the motivating force for the desire to win the championship.

Until people simply get paid a salary to compete on a team in e-sports, like in the NBA, rather than have prize money at stake at the end of the tournament, situations like this are inevitable. Most of the time in major poker tournaments, the final few players in the tournament have already worked out a split of the final prize money before the hands are dealt. They don't tell you this on TV, but it happens in every tournament.

This is one reason boxing is rarely a true "prize fight" anymore. When people's livelihoods are on the line, most people get pretty conservative and would much rather take some kind of guaranteed return.

From a legal perspective, I think MLG better hope they have some kind of rules in place to justify the decision they made, because if they simply denied those teams a collective $72,000.00 they earned because MLG didn't like how it played out, they could be subject to lawsuits by either team.

Unfortunately not that I can think of.

lol Ok I know you narrate this stuff a lot. It wasn't intended to slight, I was actually halfway expecting to be linked to something you did. I meant something aimed at beginners, explaining the basics. I watched one or two tournament games you narrated and was a little lost because the discussion was more aimed at high-level play rather than beginner stuff like gameplay/mechanics. If you have some really noob-friendly stuff I'd be very interested.

Sullla`s very first video of LOL.

They were just starting, 2 years ago, so the gameplay is very crude and mechanics weren`t on point yet, but the concepts are all there aimed at people who never heard of the game.

I`d say watch videos 1-5, in his channel, then you can move on to the more recent ones. Look for ones where the title implies he is doing an explanation of a champ or a role, those are the ones full of content for people who don`t particularly know everything about the game.

Have you downloaded the game? If so, add me. Gold Ergo Sum. I am pretty nooby, but I think I would be a good person to show you around because I can still remember what it was like when I first tried it.

Also, you should download Teamspeak 3 and get the server information to connect to chat.

I do have an alternate level 1 account that's never been played on if you want a more experienced player to guide you for a couple of games, without doing horrible things to matchmaking. Also, if you want to start playing, use this link to refer me so I can take another slow step towards Grey Warwick skin reward (end shamless plug): https://signup.leagueoflegends.com/en/si...8533d2a738

I would advise against the early videos of Sullla. Lower number=older, easy system. Outdated. Newer videos are of a varying, but typically much higher, skill level. Sullla isn't really into the whole "introduce real basic moba concepts" in his videos from what I remember. Deceptus/Seyruun's post is to a troll Anivia guide and a troll(dunkey). They are both funny, especially if you play for a while.

I'm going to assume you have no dota/hon/etc. background. Also I never had to use basic info videos, because I just sucked my way to a mediocre level of play. So I'm going to advise OptimusTom, because he seems nice and I'm somewhat aware of him when people where like oh did you hear sullla cast with this tom kid. or you can do what I did and just play a ton with people way better then you, watch streams when you get sense of game, and stuff.
