Thanks, El Grillo! I must have walked right by The Burrito Shop a few times without knowing anything about it. I'll definitely keep it in the back of my mind for the future! And Ginger, if I have the right place, it's in walking distance from a library I've wanted to visit for some time too!

Yeah I’ve been very very impressed by Guerilla units this game. Two movers that suck to dislodge are great for creating threats, tying down units, and protecting siege stacks.
Oh boy, looks like it's dogpilin' time, SD got Bing and Jack to cancel borders with me. The encouraging news is it wasn't Mjmd who offered (or at least Mjmd who sent the embargo offer that they accepted), otherwise it would've shown up on the AI attitudes screen. Mjmd is making over 500 gpt, 200 more than myself, but I'm generating 300 bpt at 0% and have fresh cities coming out of revolt.
I blew another 500 or so gold on upgrading praetorians. It's really not ideal but my margins are wide, so the emphasis is on avoiding catastrophe*. I also really need to stack up my Cav, I'm losing 1 here, 1 there when I send them out alone scouting, it adds up. I also underbuilt siege this war, so the last mainland city of Cornflakes has but 2 catapults dedicated to its capitulation. I also finally swapped into slavery (after leaving Police State ) The reason being two-fold, I need basic granaries/monk buildings in the new cities, and I'd like to be in either one of Slavery or Nationhood at any given time. Great person number 12 in 2 turns from Antium, ~60% shot to be GoldenAge-compliant. The next one will cost 1600 GPP Oh, and I declared war on Jack, his scouting Knight was making me nervous. I offered peace back after killing it (though I had to first lose a Cav at 80% ) I also offered peace to Superdeath, mainly in the interest of turnpace; the power ratio figure now reads 2.4 *Maybe I should be racing for Assembly Line instead, I estimate it's about 16-20 turns away. P.S. Another idea would be to go to Steel, stockpile Praetorians (ridiculously cheap) and use Praet/Cannons for Zone defense instead of the very pricey small Cavalry stacks that are running around. I have enjoyed this map (to be fair this game has been kind to me, that might color things), so thanks Tarkeel. Really nice balance of mirroring and structure, and it was reasonably tight while not guaranteeing a classical era death war. Turn Report: Drafted Rifle stack of ~8 has arrived in Cornflake's core to defend it. Currently whipping out some settlers to fill the Egyptian husk and some basic court/forge/monk infrastructure. It's amazing how fast you can get land up and running in later eras, ancient and classical wars set you far behind and at risk of being overtaken in parallel. 11/10 would use renaissance mounted again. I got myself a Great Artist so I can launch my 3-man GA whenever I want (after Oxford is done). This is a really well positioned border city with the hill but has the distinct disadvantage of no real food sources! Cornflakes must've been very patient growing it up. The desolate and suspicious closed border I now share with Bing. He actually ate a turn of anarchy converting to Taoism , I suspect he didn't notice SD inserted that in the embargo deal as a way of signaling. This is *very* encouraging to see and it appears that a win might be close at hand. It's becoming more and more clear and probable to me (especially after the incredible display at Thebes showed the efficacy of rifling defenses) that the only player with realistic chances who could be standing in the way of a concession at this point is Mjmd, who can easily reach Rifles, and has the pop to whip up something that requires respecting. I really don't like betraying close collaborators if I have other options, so I'll go for Assembly Line and try and force a win like that instead of turning the army around and marching north. That being said I don't think I will be the one to make that decision, as Mjmd might want to go out with a bang. lumbermill pillage yields are atrocious, don't think I've gotten more than 2g per instance this game
A turn of bad luck and bad judgement
okay. Here I was too slow to act, I had a sign saying to post a sentry Cav, but I neglected that and it appears I might now by struck by knights from the fog if Magic Science is joining the dogpile. I have rifles moving down this turn, but the problem is that I really need to be defending, they'll arrive too late. On defense I can trade at insane ratios, on offense I can only kill one unit per turn. I also made a second possible mistake, I could've captured and deleted the workers roading there, and if he didn't have another pair nearby, that would've removed the threat of immediate two mover strike, but I didn't want to risk the provocation.
This feels like when in the movies the enemies approach our brave hero one by one to be slewn in single combat.
If Mjmd doesn't move his 30 knights down south right now I think I've got this in the bag. Please Mjmd, just one more tech, just one more tech. Throughout this game I can't help the sensation that I'm making a pale mockery of Civac's PB55 Rome game. Everything happening at a later date, and an opposition far more disorganized. L + Rifling + No promos? After the glee subsides, I realize I've made two significant mistakes with regards to GG healing. Firstly, I had a GG spawn on Arretium a few turn ago and have neglected to move a galley in position to ferry it over, this is going to probably cost me units as the cav fail to heal. Secondly, and this was pure misclick, but when trying to move my 1.8 strength wounded Cuirassier healer in Akhenaten (he must be moved every turn to prevent him from healing and registering as a stack defender), I accidentally moved half the Cav stack as well, that's effectively 6 Cav whose "production" will be delayed a turn. |
