RMOG: Renaissance Men of Genius

Looking over the log now, it seems the result of each battle was mostly as predicted. He only lost 1 battle over 50%, and engaged enough times to have a few victories at 10-20%. The real luck came from how little damage I took in each battle. I think I had 5 Rifles, 2 Pikes and a LBow in there to start with? REM had to lose 10 Cavs (half his army!) in order to gets the odds above 10%.

In any case, I fell silly for not reinforcing KND last turn. I'll take back my comment about being happy with my defense so far, although to be fair I've done most other things right (I hope). Perhaps it's still a bit early to be assuming that we'll get out of this one, but REM will need to regroup and come back with siege before trying to take KND again. Combine that with Nationhood coming in 2, and we might even be able to convince REM to sign peace. He may try and fork PC with KND, but I'll see it coming a mile away. The only other danger is him landing in the S and trying to capture my weakly defended backline, it'll be hard to hold that if he does go that way but it seems suicidal for him to try and hold that area if he can't crack KND/PC.

All of that had dropped us to last place and we are still the easiest target for REM/mackoti (scooter still can't reach us easily, especially after REM captured JAO). I envy plako's position as he will probably be left alone until we die (unless scooter tries something). We don't really have a military advantage as plako not only got Rifling the same turn we did but that's his UU too. Very good chance mackoti tries to finish us off in the Mid-long term, or maybe REM will come back for round 2. In the short term though, mackoti and scooter still lack Rifling and we've held off REM so we should be able to stabilize for a bit.

That's a lot of dead cavalry. It feels like we got AI'd  Two GG's in one turn  eek

I propose if we go through with my plan for No Copper, we rename it Rifle Island.

Finally, I have a feeling the story of this game in the google doc will go like this:

Traits were misvalued, people micro'd - some better than others. Al didn't have gunpowder for Jann's so Mack ate him with Phracts. REM tried to do the same to RMOG but they had rifles. In a remarkable twist, Mack won. Scooter and Plako did....something. RMOG scored a moral victory by not dying first.

Hey, no fair claiming credit for your prediction when you get to influence the result... lol

T266:

The first relatively quiet turn in a long time. REM retreated near KND and took GW. Hard to know if REM will look for another way to push forward, but I'm remaining vigilant for now. If REM continues his retreat next turn then I would dearly wish to be able to send this to scooter regarding PHS:

Seriously, now that we've survived the initial push I'm kinda lost as to what to do now. I guess we switch to Nationhood/Theocracy and whip cats/draft rifles for the rest of the game? That would let us live the longest, which is just about all we're good for after the REM invasion. I'm not sure I posted it in the thread, but I was thinking we could try for a moral 'Dutch' victory. The 2 objectives I had in mind was killing a Frigate with a EI (which we've done!) and building a Dike on a non-river city (No Copper would be perfect). So with nothing better to do, should we go Steam Power after Nationalism? Or we could go for Steel for Cannons or Constitution for Representation I suppose, that would probably be more practical.

The only National Wonder I have planned is getting Glove up in Peaks so we can 1 pop draft rifles there for eternity. HE in No Copper is probably a good idea as well, the only issue is that once mack gets Combustion it's in deep trouble. Not sure about NE, we could use the GPP boost but it may be better to just skip it. Probably going to have to skip Oxford (we lost a uni and have no good options to rebuild it). Also we have a GE to use somewhere. If we aren't going to spend him on a 2 man GA and plan to stick around for a while then we should do something better than rush Shwedagon Paya. Globe seems to be the most practical use, although Sistine's would be fun for annoying people too.

I deeply regret that we can't see REM's graphs, specifically the power graph from last turn. frown

SP next, let's get a dike up and call it a moral Dutch victory.

Rush the Globe with the GE, take the opportunity to get a few more drafted rifles out. I doubt taking the Sistine Chapel would really do much to annoy people.

At this point, I think our goals should be thus:

1. Surviving and being as prickly as possible with tons of rifles.
2. Blue turtle shelling REM for trying to eliminate us.
3. Taking back PHS from Scooter and our island cities from Mack.

How many rifles do you think we can draft/build before the game ends?  hammer

That all sounds good to me. We can achieve No.2 by going for Naval Strike again, and No.1 is a given. Reclaiming PHS is a given but otherwise I'd like to leave scooter alone. The only issue I have is attacking mack with our 'NAP' still in effect, but it's not a big enough issue to be a dealbreaker. That said we aren't anywhere near being able to launch an offensive against mack so we may have to wait and see what happens on that front. For now we build Rifles/cats/EI and see where we stand in 10t or so.

My own goals for this game right now are to help scooter win over mackoti/REM (or plako I guess, but scooter is more likely to pull it off). ATM that means we blueshell REM, but I'd support a dogpile against mackoti if scooter and REM are willing to co-operate against him. No idea how to communicate that to scooter though...

scooter knows when to fold 'em, and emptied PHS (pic failed frown). Declared war, captured the city and offered the exact same peace conditions that he offered me signalling no further hostile intentions. We are the 2nd civ to join the 'captured a city from multiple civilizations' club.  shades

Aside from that, REM fully retreats from our lands and we switch to Nationhood/Theocracy. Next few turns are going to be very quiet, just lots and lots of rifles.

Also mackoti is beginning to annoy me, he's parked a Phract next to each frontline city despite no REM units nearby and insists on being the last to end turn every turn despite not being in a turn split. If he keeps it up I may cancel OB and think seriously about how to recapture our island cities.

That means we've won now, right?
