I'll be keeping maces for CR2 rifles (I don't think maces can upgrade to muskets)
Jive Colon Jive
No bowel movement here, it's all good news all the time! After NobleHelium exposed my horribly flawed gnp analysis, (thanks again Noble,) I redid my figures and came up with the following:
I hope this is more accurate. At least it passes the common sense test:
Recent Tech Speed: - Catwalk - paper (3t)
- AdHoc - metal casting (4t)
- Pegasus - metal casting (4t)
The Liberalism schedule is on track, and my tech power SHOULD be enough to beat even Catwalk's double bulb. Even better, while I was doing bare-map close-ups to estimate EP points, I saw this:
That Academy wasn't there 4 turns ago. Catwalk had 2 GPs, he bulbed Philosophy with one, and built an academy with the other. He has none left to bulb Education!
New Liberalism update: - Catwalk needs Education and Liberalism ~3000 beakers
- I need Philosophy and Liberalism ~2300 beakers
Unless Catwalk gets a 5th GP, he's hosed.
Bonus Jive!
Ad hoc has also been building stuff with his GPs. He built the Hindu shrine and an academy In his Capital, and his other GP did something that I don't really understand:

With incense, furs, and nice grassland for cottaging, the city isn't half-bad as a commerce center - which an academy would obviously buff.
However, as someone who built three superflous academies PBEM17, yeah.......

That's true, but at size 6 it's pobably not a near term payoff... I made my own mistakes, settling the great engineer for example.
Ad Hoc's GP's to date:
-Academy
-Academy
-Golden Age (on 7 cities)
-Shrine (that pays 1gpt)
I'm not jiving cuz those are bad choices. I'm jiving cuz I might have the opportunity to own those fancy buildings in the near-to-mid future. Right around the time they'll start reaping strong benefits!

I actually feel like we need to just throw a sticky in the Civ General forum that simply says stop building Academies in giant letters. They have situational uses, but I'd say 90% of the academies built would be better used on a bulb.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

Drama
After education, what popped up as recommended research? Gunpowder! Tempting, but I didn't take the bait.
I felt safe enough in the Liberalism race to take a side track for 1t Drama. It will save 96 beakers on Philosophy, so cost only ~220 beakers against the Lib timeline. Unless Catwalk gets a 5th GP in the next 2 turns, I'm in no danger.
Otherwise, a slow turn. I finished a settler who is running straight into Sumerian culture. Another one is almost done. The same turn Sumer falls, 2 new cities will found. To that end, 3 CR2 maces are working their way toward the battlefront. Forbidden Palace will finish ~t100; I'll celebrate with my LAST 2 peacetime settlements.

Son of a Duck!
Remember I said the Lib race is safe unless Cat gets another GP? Yeah, you guessed it:
A prophet? My heart! He could bulb theology, or start a Golden Age. I don't know if even a golden age will help him sag Lib though.
Catwalk and I have tension on the lux border. I placed a cheap wonder there to prevent serious border pressure, but he has a seriously strong city site... could still be an issue later, especially if he goes for a culture victory.
On End Turn, the world got a whole lot lighter. Visibility on ALL Arabian cities, and I can even investigate Kalgan (the jungle city where Confu got a free spread.) AdHoc has finally started building missionaries... one at least.

I really appreciate him showing off the patented Pericles cottage economy there.

Yet another long term investment I'm quite happy to see him make! My major advantage over Catwalk thus far has been Rep specialists. Once Cat gets Constitution (only 2 techs away if he beelines!) I'll need a different advantage.
The luster of the SE wears off as the game goes on anyway, so more cottages look pretty good for my long term.
AdHoc did get Metal Casting and Iron Working back to back. He's definitely going to get his unique knights going before t120. Bummer, that.
