We may need to think over going for the sugar spot west of Ditchdigger. CivPlayers has pushed northwards on the coast, and claimed the strong fish&spices spot to the west of the stupid German city (their city didn't claim the rice, but is 1W of the grass spice).
Of course, the city will be aggressive against CivPlayers, and quite exposed, so there are plenty of cons against it.

I don't think settling a sugar city is a good idea if that city cuts CivPlayers off from their spice city further north.
Are you sure the sugar isn't already settled, too, kjn? Maybe a jungle tile missing somwhere there as well? Let's claim our backyard and expand by force. That way we control where and when the conflict happens. We also have some vertical growth to do still.
I have to run.
Solid jungle there still. And we'd see the borders of a city on the column 1W of the gems.
Yeah, I agree that going for sugar city isn't good now, but if we do want it I expect this to be our last peaceful chance.

1. Hooray for Nationalism!
2. My warrior is still alive??! All my what I don't even. Played: Pitboss 18 - Kublai Khan of Germany Somalia | Pitboss 11 - De Gaulle of Byzantium | Pitboss 8 - Churchill of Portugal | PB7 - Mao of Native America | PBEM29 Greens - Mao of Babylon
Culture overlay of our northwest. Note that we have decent visibility in the area (partly thanks to guest labour), so I really doubt CivPlayers has an inland city to their north:

I interpreted that agreement to be about not settling within minimum-distance of the cities of the other part.
Looking closer, there is talk about treating the river as a natural border, but that was said quite some time ago and with regard to an area much further south.
