I made the Elizabeth-Pericles prediction mostly based on the map - having 1 neighbour rather than 2. (Counting along the coast, not including Pacal who kind of bordered everyone.)

A mechanic question, do AIs vote for diplo victory based only on their relation to one candidate, or does hatred for the other canditate play a role too?

I.e. "If it had been Pericles vs. Darius I'd abstain, but since I hate Elizabeth I'll vote Pericles just to spite her...."?

Was it me who screwed up or the leaders? Just 4 points this time, 3 from number left and one from 31 turns away. @Molach: Most only vote for victory at friendly, some at pleased. If they could vote for both, they pick the one they have the better relations with. This also includes the hidden things like peace weight and relative scores.

Diplo victory is the stupidest victory type.

No, AIs don't diplo vote for spite. They just vote for their highest rated diplomatic pal, minimum +8 including hidden modifiers like iBasePeaceWeight (this is the good vs evil "warmonger scale" to which Sullla keeps referring.)
