The big map is awesome. How do you get it to pull back so far without the clouds appearing?
Also, I doubt most of the captions are supposed to be funny, but I cracked up a little when the obviously gigantic body of water was labeled as "great ocean."

If it's not a mod or otherwise tweaking Civ4DetailManager, Ctrl-Shift-F for flying camera mode lets you zoom all the way out without clouds. Needs to be enabled in Civilization4.ini first.

t79 - Settler in Ankara, start Confucian Monastery (time to let Ankara grow a bit).
203g from my Hagia Sophia run which is not too dreadful, but sooooo builds the Colossus in Sparta - on the Eastern edge of the lake.
Settler heads towards Stone Dot - should settle on t84.
Chariot defeats a wandering Warrior near Sarmatian, and SE Archer kills another warrior to move to 9xp - can afford to stand and let the next Warrior attack it for the last xp. Experienced HA heads off towards Sarmatian.
Workers complete chops for Bursa and Konya (a Spearman & Courthouse respectively), Daisy finishes the Sugar Plantation at Gaziantep and Mike starts another(!?) chop/mine at Istanbul.
sooooo and athlete are both directing all their EPs againstme, but can't see my research yet; I split mine between them, since Ruff can see everyone's research anyway.

Well I don't think I'm doing anything special, just been pulling the camera out as far as it will go, taking screenshot and then pasting them together as best I can in Paint. There's some clouds barely visible as I'm taking the snapshots, but they don't seem to affect the final image too much - I assumed it was the size & type of map that meant the clouds didn't really appear.

Mostly I started naming features so that in the early stages of exploration I could just refer to places or areas by name. So rather than having to say "that valley NE of Edirne, y'know the one with the Spices", I could just say "Death Valley". Some of the names stuck better than others, and mostly those are the only ones left on the map.
I hadn't realised until I put the map together just how much space sooooo has in his Northern hinterlands. There's certainly a few good spots up there waiting to be settled; seemingly more so than mh's land in the NW. And again I'm surprised that athlete wants Zapotec when there's a couple of excellent spots in his area that he hasn't settled - NW of capital, and the Gems/FP/Iron spot in the South are begging to be settled!

t80 - Istanbul completes Barracks, starts Horse Archer. Bursa completes Spearman, starts Axeman. Building some front-line troops at Bursa before starting on a couple of Cats. Horse Archer at Istanbul to support the defense of the SE & attack on Sarmatian.
Two new Barb Warriors have popped up S & SE of Edirne, and with 9xp Archer on 0.1/3 health he's not going to be able to even defend an attack from one to make it to 10xp. However, I think that my 8xp HA can make it across and kill both of them ... thus making it to 10xp for Heroic Epic. Yay!
Tim (Bursa) moves to Chop/Farm a lake-front tile.
Brian and Amber both move to Copper and Road to allow Settler to move to Stone Dot faster.
Tweak tiles at Ankara to get Monastery in 2t and growth in 1t.
Whip Barracks at Samsun.
15beakers left on MC, so queue up Philo behind it ... 4t remaining, as predicted.

t81 - Trade MC & HBR to Ruff for Paper. Discover Metal Casting.
Lots of builds complete:
HA in Istanbul, start Mausoleum of Maussollos(11t).
Edirne: Barracks - Forge(7t), will hire 2Scientists after growth in 3t.
Konya: Courthouse - Culture [Lighthouse(3t)]
Samsun: Barracks - Catapult
Finish Mine & Cottage at Ankara (finally starting to develop), Amber & Brian start Mining Copper at Samsun, Tim starts a chop at Bursa, and Daisy connects the second Sugar - offered to Ruff.
New HA heads NE - towards Sarmatian - while 8xp HA heads SE to intercept the two Barb Warriors who will make him Heroic.
End Turn - hmmmm, seems like I'm going to get Philo at end t83, not t84 as I've been telling Ruff. Wonder if he can still get Edu 1t earlier....

Quick note to Ruff:
Quote:Hey Ruff,
So it seems like I'm researching better than I'd thought. Apparently I'm now due to complete Lib at the end of my t83, so if you can still manage to complete Edu at the end of t83 then I can start Liberalism on t84.
In other news, I offered you Iron and Sugar (separately).
Dreylin II.

And a quick note to Athlete:
Quote:Hey Taylor,
I see you have Literature now, so I was wondering if you had any interest in a Music&Monotheism for Feudalism trade?
Cheers,
Andy.
I don't hold out much hope, but it's worth a try....

Just about what I expected from the reply:
Quote:No thanks Andy. I'm not really interested in either of those techs. What are you currently researching? We might be able to work something out...
Taylor
But I want to keep the lines of communication open, and maybe see if there's anything in particular that he's after, or if he lets anything slip. Quote:Taylor,
Well there's not really many good option for me at the moment, so I'm back-filling techs I don't seem to be able to trade for. Other than duplicating someone elses tech, there's Drama, Compass & Divine Right - which all have minimal trade value - and Education, which I'm guessing that sooooo is pursuing for his cheap Unis. <shrug> I guess we won't be trading for a while at this rate.
Andy.
Oh, and of course I deliberately didn't mention which duplicate tech I'm researching at the moment...

Reply from Ruff:
Quote:Dreylin,
I knocked off Literature in 1 turn this turn (T82). I have 4gold but I can finish Education at break even next turn (T83) so that I can accept a trade to you on T84 and you can start Liberalism on that turn. Hmm - it might be prudent to send me 40g next turn just in case. I would hate to be a few gold short of finishing Edu. I'll send it straight back if I don't need it.
I have also finished 'Dreylin's Lackey' and will be sending him your way. Have you put together that map of roads that you want?
Ruff
OK, so things are on track.
Dreylin's Lackey was Ruff's offer of compansation for pipping me to Hagia Sophia - a 3move Worker who can do 1t roads is going to be very useful connecting up the West.
