RBP4 [SPOILERS] - Shaka of Zulu (sunrise089, regoarrarr, and friends)

regoarrarr Wrote:As I remember though city 3 is a net positive and City 4 is a big positive (of course) but I want to see the effects of the next few cities.

And those were where? Sorry if you've already posted their locations, but I can't seem to find them going back in the thread. smile

Well in my test game they were just in garbage locations. In the real game, City 3 (Montgomery) is going to go between our existing cities, and City 4 is (probably) going to go south of Reading near the plako / WK land bridge

Thanks for all the overnight posts - we're 9 posts up on LP for 2nd and within striking distance of plako for 1st!!!

I logged in and played Turn 60

The aforementioned spot south of us does not connect (at least not directly) to plako's lands. Definitely need more exploration there.

And here's an overall shot of lands that I took mostly because I'm going to use it to try and fix my WB save and do some more GLH cost / benefit analysis at some point

First settler should be built in 4 turns with one more chop.

I'm thinking the basic plan should be settlers and workers at Vine and some impis out of Reading once copper is hooked up.

Well I spent some time getting the sandbox game up and running and I found that I have the 2nd city in the wrong place frown It's one tile closer to the capital than it is in the real game. Which probably explains why the maintenance was only 1gpt instead of 2

So, given the caveat that the maintenance may be off (And I may go back in to fix it depending on time), and I think some of the teching might be off due to known civs boni in the real game, here's what I found.

Prior to founding 3rd city, 80% science, 16bpt @ +1 (18bpt @ 90% with -1gpt)
Found 3rd city (Montgomery) on Turn 66: 80% - 21bpt @ +1 (24bpt @ 90% with -2)
Found 4th city (Colerain) on Turn 77: 70% - 25bpt @ +1 (28bpt @ 80% with -2)
Found 5th city on Turn 84: 70% - 28bpt @ -1
Found 6th city on Turn 89: go from 60% - 25bpt @ +1gpt to 28bpt and +2gpt
Found 7th city on Turn 93: go from 50% - 24bpt @ +1gpt to 26bpt and -2gpt (gain 2 beakers, lose 3 commerce)

So I think that we can safely say that up to 6 (coastal ) cities is a pretty strong net positive. This isn't nearly as fast as we COULD spam settlers - I didn't whip the capital, and I didn't build settlers out of any of the other cities though of course we could. I did slip in a couple of workers (though we're still probably short) and I did build 3 impis and an axe.

Oh. That looks nice. Everything is counting fresh cities with just one pop or you played it as times goes and say third and fourth cities have more population when you settle your sixth?

I was just playing a "regular" game, so right - the earlier cities had more population. I also built a few of our Ihkandas which give -20% maintenance, so that could have been somewhat of a factor.

I think the next thing to do would be see if I can get some settlers out a bit earlier (maybe whipping at the capital and/or some of the other cities)

Some diplo coming in

From plako, replying to where luddite and lord parkin's scouts are

Quote:Sure. From our meeting place their latest known location is ~15 tiles to South and ~40 tiles west. few turns ago they were heading towards west i.e. towards Vikings. If you tell where your warrior is I could hint them directions.

And from Moogle, showing us just how far we're falling in tech pace
Quote:Fortunately that fourth city did not impact my research all that much so Writing will finish at the end of this turn. If you're still interested in open borders, let me know. :-)

Also, two of our scouts found each other a good distance to the southeast. Are you headed anywhere in particular down there? The way east is unfortunately blocked by Locke's borders at the moment, although perhaps you can negotiate a border passage by the time you reach them.

Quick reply to plako asking for tiles to the EAST, since we can't really go west (I'm not entirely sure we can go east either at this point, at least w/o OB)

And reply to Moogle
Quote:Excellent! I will propose open borders in game (or accept if you've already done so). If you wouldn't mind letting us know the best way to proceed to meet his warrior (or guiding him towards us) , that would be appreciated.

As for our other units, he is not heading anywhere in particular, but unless you've got a better idea, my plan was to head south and hope Locke or us got Writing by the time he got down there

Note that this invalidates the signs for our scout as we'll want to instead send him northeast through Moogleville

plako's response
Quote:Can't check right now and haven't counted exactly, but I think the east-west number of tiles is close to 80 so ~40 to east would work also.
