[PB59] Tarkeel is alone against the darkness

Turn 50 (2000 BC)
Our southern fogbusting warrior and escort for the goldsite was eaten by a bear T48, so we chance moving Arkham's escort despite Commodore flashing a warrior on the northwest landbridge. Both Superdeath and Joshy have been dumping EP into me lately, but I think it's a matter of running out of contacts to put them into. Neither have met each other or TBS, but Joshy was up to 4 cities last turn.

Randolph Carter, our third worker, finishes in Kingsport T50 and heads to improve Essex' wheat. I haven't been simming (apart from deciding on which opening to go for), so there's less just-in-time worker movement here than in 58, but Carter is in place just as the capital culture claims the tile.

State of the Miskatonic Valley
The economy seems decent but nothing special. After the nerf to coastal FIN we haven't been able to get a benefit from the trait yet, but once we're starting to get some riverside cottages down it should be better.

Our cities are set up to share resources for faster growth, but Essex will have to wait a few turns for its food.

City Overview
Kingsport is very fast growing and will probably be whipped consistently for most of the game. I still haven't decided I'm going with cottages or watermills on the rivers here.

Arkham is going to be one fine commerce city once we get some cottages down, and has access to enough production to get key infrastructure out. It also has plenty of food to help out with workers and settlers early on.

Essex is going to be more production focused and is likely the Heroic Epic city, with 7 hills, copper and marble to work.

Map Musings
It seems like every player has their own "island" of roughly equal quality, with narrow jungle bridges to neighbors. I'm not quite satisfied by the number of coastal cities on the dotmap of "my area", but I think it will have to do. Our scout is trying to make a clockwise loop around the inner sea, but I think some of my neighbors has more connections than my two.

I've been playing this a bit too much on autopilot, and a barbarian spear is actually threatening Arkham next turn. It has a 30% chance or so to really wreck my game. My only defense is that PB58 has been taking up most of my civ time these last few weeks.

In other news, Mysticism came in this turn so we're building cheap obelisks in most cities. Our fourth worker, William Dyer, also joins in.

Turn 60-61 (1560 BC)
The barbarian spearman didn't attack at first, opting to pillage the road it was on. A friend joined in from the south:

We managed to beat off the first spear, but the second took Aylesbury. We're hooking up copper this turn and put a turn into a warrior at Arkham that we can whip, which should give us an axe to reclaim it.

In other news, someone we know researched sailing, and since we have a route to Commodore it has to be him. We ask for open borders to get some trade flowing.

It's finally time to strike back at the barbarians in Aylesbury!
Axe vs C1 Spear, 75.1%: win!
That was some unfortunate events, and should illustrate just how casual I'm playing this one.

We settled Marblehead this turn, sealing the border against SuperLewwyn. The site was originally scheduled on the plainshill northeast, but we moved it forward as Superdeath hasn't been very focused on settling toward us in this game. We're abit slow to 5 cities, but next settler is out the door and another soon after. We've got some infrastructure out, four obelisks and two granaries, and we're working some cottages so the economy looks decent. We just unfogged a route to both TBS and joshy, both of whom have opened borders, so when sailing comes in next turn we'll get a nice boost.

There's a barb warrior wandering in the south, but we've now defogged our entire "island" so that should be the last of them.

So, how do we win this one? A rush wasn't feasible with the terrain and neighbors, so the best bet is to use our traits to grow tall while making the most out of our land. Sailing came in last turn so we have foreign trade routes going. Masonry to make use of our stone and marble seems like a good next choice, and we're likely to want Monotheism pretty soon. Judaism hasn't been founded yet either.

Kingsport: Using it's food surplus to whip out settlers; Has a granary and obelisk
Arkham: Has supplied some metal units while transitioning to cottages; Has a granary and obelisk,
Essex: Our future heroic epic pump; Has a granary and obelisk,
Aylesbury: Had some barbarian "misfortune" but is getting back into it; Has an obelisk
Marblehead: Secures the border to Superdeath, just founded
Rockport: Secures the border to Commodore, just founded
Another settler is heading to build a port city on the southern coast.

Jowy founded judaism, which we were sort-of-going for. Martin's Beach was founded on the southern coast 3 turns ago, and Kingsport has just whipped out another settler, and Essex will whip one next turn. TBS and Commodore seems to be in a hot war, as Commodore is down to 6 cities.

So, I've been slacking on the reports again, as the game has been mainly on auto-pilot. That changed this turn, when Joshy showed up and wanted our (only) horses, offering, corn, cow, stone, crab, deer, fish, pigs and sheep for it. Deer and crabs are the only we don't have hooked already, and they certainly don't come close to the only source of the resource for our UU. We've been doing some fish deals with SD, who've signaled his intent to attack Joshy, so I guess that's starting soon. The interesting part is that Joshy should have horses at the outer ring of his third city, but maybe he hasn't expanded borders there yet? No matter how I turn this around there's no direction where giving him those horses is a good idea.

Joshy is back for horse, this time offering fish, corn and cow. I'm sorry, there's nothing you have to interest me, and if that's supposed to be a message, I'm not getting it.
