[Sucksatciv] First time playing Pitboss

How do I play the start for practice like that? Explain slowly and carefully.

Many people create a "simulator" by using the built-in worldbuilder (accessible with CTRL+W) to recreate the terrain visible in the start. You can then try to play out different scenarios to see what works best.

I'm planning my build order now, my tech path must be Agri-AH-BW, for build order I'm divided. Originally, I thought I'll make two workers one warrior to let the city grow to size three or four and then make a settler. Don't worry about getting AH in time, because I'll be working the 3/0/1 unimproved corn while building the settler and the worker will have to spend a move to get to both the corn and the sheep. There will be a few turns between when I finish the pasture and when I make the settler, I think I might even grow to size four, build a grassland mine while I wait for BW and work that as well if I do two workers. I'm really divided over whether to make two workers first or to make a worker followed by a warrior followed by a worker, the downside of the latter is that the city will grow without having improved tiles to work, but I will have the riverside grassland to work for faster BW while I wait for the sheep to come online. I think that this what I will probably do on second thoughts primarily because this will actually lead to me being able to chop settlers as early as possible.

After explaining things carefully and slowly on discord the more advanced pitboss players taught me how to create a sandbox. It's pretty helpful to figure out the more precise parts of the micro. I only played up to turn 30 3 times in the sandbox, and in them I tried worker worker, worker warrior while grow to size 2 worker, and worker warrior while grow to size 3 worker. The start that was best was the one where I grew to size 2 before going for a second worker. With my first worker I put one turn into a plains mine on my way to improve corn. Once corn is improved I put one turn into a farm on the way to improve the sheep pasture. While the sheep pasture is being improved Delhi grows to size 2, when Delhi is size 2 I switch to building fast worker and working both riverside tiles to save a turn on BW. The fast worker moves to improve sheep, and puts a turn into a plains mine 1W of the capital on the way. The worker puts two turns into the sheep by the time the second worker is finished, I finish the warrior while growing to size three, the second worker puts a turn into the 1W plains mine, and then goes to put in the last turn on the sheep pasture, then the two workers finish the 1W plains mine. The capital grows to size 3 and BW comes in, I build a settler and the workers chop the forest 1N of the capital.

I see that Khorneflakes has chosen Pericles of Arabia, I had my best ever singleplayer game with that particular combination, it will be interesting to see how it goes in a multiplayer format. I hope that I don't end up near him because of the massive culture pressure. The one problem is the starting techs, but those are already awkward playing as Pericles of Greece. I think that Pericles of China or Maya would be strongest because of Maya's UB and China's starting techs and UB that would synergize pretty well with a machinery/engineering bulb.

How does Chinese UB help with a machinery bulb?

Hey everyone, sorry for not updating as I've been busy lately, I expect to be a lot more free now, I explored the south and marked a few spots that might be good later down the line. What would you like me to keep you updated on? Maybe I could write about what I think of the other civ/leader combos people chose. Right now there aren't many decisions to make for the gameplay itself so I don't know what to ask about.
