Thanks for the thoughts and suggestions, everyone. Hopefully I can avoid any disastrous decisions.
I tend to agree with DaveV about scout garrisons. Sometimes you can delay the AI quite a lot just by having something present in a system. And knowing when anyone else enters a system is useful info as well, for a very small price. Might be too late to try scouts at this point, though.

My instincts may be off. I normally play on small maps, where 6 scouts will cover quite a lot (of course, I never checked if Ref had replaced the one that died at Orion - I am very rusty).
It may have looked easy, but that is because it was done correctly - Brian Moore
I did build a new Scout to bring us back up to six after one died at Orion (and to cover Nature) and they're all still around. I notice none were sent to scout the back-lines red star when Backwards was founded (bringing that star into range) nor to the forward one at Range 7 when we finished Hydrogen fuel, so it would be good to get a look at those soon. It should be safe for the Scouts at Backwards and Zoctan to do that, but I definitely agree we'll soon need more ships covering the stars we can reach at this point in the game. I'm more inclined to focus on armed ships for the purpose now, especially at Proteus - but it's possible an unarmed long-range Sili colship could show up at Uxmai before an armed or escorted one hits Proteus, in which case I'd feel foolish both for this recommendation and for choosing to research a battle computer over a Deep Space Scanner!
OK, turn set complete. I stopped one turn early due to events, so the next player can play 11 turns to get us on regular timing. Super short recap:
- Colonized two more worlds, including the terran 120
- Researched some tech
- Met the humans
- Rocks are about to start claiming hostile worlds near us.
I will follow up with a more detailed report. My screen shots did not work. So I only have descriptions. I will have to figure out what went wrong before my next turn set. Save is attached.
Do the errors say anything other than just that something went wrong? If the number of images is the problem (I think the limit per post might be twenty? I'm not sure...) you can try splitting the report into multiple posts and see if that helps.

I was getting those beginning of April. I couldn't figure out the trigger. I think it was character length. Resolved itself eventually.

I tried removing the emojis, still getting the errors. Little short replies like this work, but nothing longer. No idea what is happening.
The newest leader of the science directorate was so busy fiddling with new technology, he forgot to make sure he had pictures of events. Oops. Excerpts from his personal journals will have to serve as a report on these years.
2335 (inherited turn)
Mentar building colony ship for the Terran 120 (decide against redesigning to add a laser).
Has 148 factories at size 110. Really need to improve this!
Nature carrying research
Backwards building industry
Force Fields and Weapons in very low percentages
Rock colony ship in west near Proteus.
Colony ship on way to Yarrow, 4 turns to get there.
