PB80 Lurker thread - Screw tolerance level over 9000!!

The entrance is actually about equal distance from Commodores and Pins capitals. However, it would create some awkward close naval borders if Commodore took.

Caveat Emptor. Whenever I make dotmap suggestions it is purely based on the images shown in the thread.

curiously, his dotmap settles so as to avoid orphaning the northernmost fish, which only makes sense if he can get the one 2SE from 15 from the other coast... but he hasn'teven puta dot there, because that's pretty clearly pindicator's spot. hmmm...

Also liking the classical/advanced start setup, something that we could do more often.

One thing I'm thinking about here with regards to this map script and the game randomness - Yuris' start is the entire reason I would not want to play this kind of game. The other 4 players all have land that is interesting even if not balanced. I would play that happily knowing I might get a start that isn't great.

But the area around Yuris' start is just so bleak that I would check out of the game immediately and then have to spend another ~8 months passing turns. There's just a huge gap between having a below-average start and a truly hopeless one. I'm not sure what the solution would be, but it's an issue for sure.

You could add a river to the desert, if there is a truly worst position.
But... where to draw the line and will it still be the random game, players chose to join?

I mean, they knew, stuff like this will happen.

They wanted max random and they got it. Honesty they got fortunate. Totestra can create some starts with horrible capitals AND horrible surrounding land. Having 5 playable capitals is already well above expectations and Yuris while being screwed is still not as badly screwed as I've seen this script spit out.

But yes where to draw the line and how much people expect / want is a common issue in map making.

Yuris has the worst position, but I think it's still borderline playable.

The capital is genuinely ridiculous. Though he should have settled on the rice IMO, can just spam food-hammer units to start into an eventual specialist farm.

Then the cities down the coastline are all really strong and nice to settle, which brings him close enough to the Mirkwood to start claiming some of that too.

Obviously the win condition is tough - taking out Commodore with the best land, but he has enough resources that it's not totally impossible.

Yeah this was a pretty fortunate script and they definitely knew this going in. Yuris has a bit of a shot if Pin and Comm grind against one another.

Sad for Yuris that he lost a city to a barb axe and, a couple of turns later, Thoth comments on seeing his first barb warrior.

Also, what do y'all think about the Pin/Comm war? Are they both behaving sensibly given one anothers reactions? Personally, I was a bit surprised Pin continued with his campaign after seeing it would be too well defended to raze/take.

I understand Pindi's goal of making Commodore actually pay to defend his great lands. The question is if it's worth it to Pindi, but I think it might be.

Pin hasn't scouted his NE island chain and hasn't realized he has quite a bit of land. He doesn't know Commodore doesn't have island chains. All Pin sees is that Commodore has a good wood area and wanted some of it and saw Commodore beeline the contested area.

Its exactly the kind of thing I would expect to see in a random map  crazyeye
