You can roll 'em, if you want. I'm still nervous about the email thing- I'll have to have the admin list of registrants' emails open in another tab. I do hope that people who don't want the save sent to their registered email address, but somewhere else instead, will put that information in their post where someone who needs two programs and three windows open can find the information easily.

Everybody paying close attention will. Bound to be somebody not paying close attention, but they'll just have to speak up when it fails to arrive in the inbox of their choice (and get their save later than everybody else!) I can take care of the dice rolling. No problem. - Sirian

It's a little embarassing, but I've been spending an inordinate amount of time thinking about this line from the Announcement Post for Epic 8:
Scenario Goals: Play the hand you are dealt. My standard interpretation of that would be: Win as quickly as you can by the most efficient victory condition using the techniques and resources you find at your disposal. Is anyone planning to something other than this? Or is that just a question? Compromise Wrote:Scenario Goals: Play the hand you are dealt. I plan not to die. As this is on Monarch and I am one of the few RB players who find Prince challenging, I will be happy if I get any kind of win. Compromise Wrote:My standard interpretation of that would be: Win as quickly as you can by the most efficient victory condition using the techniques and resources you find at your disposal. That's a reasonable interpretation. The main thing, really, is to represent your civ well. You want to impress all the players assigned to the other seven civs with how much better you can play your civ than what the AI did with it in their games. You are welcome to adopt a variant within the variant, though, if that would be more fun for you. (For instance, if you are pwning Deity left and right, and would be bored to tears by this game, you can turn it in to an Always War scenario by declaring on everybody you meet. ... Just an example!) - Sirian

This is dangerously close to the spoiler line, which is impressive considering that the saves haven't even been released yet! I think that asking for clarification is always acceptable, but once you start asking about others' plans and approaches for the game, people might start posting spoilers as a reply.
My interpretation of "play the hand you are dealt", for what it's worth, is that you might end up getting a civ that doesn't have traits, units, or a starting location that you would ordinarily prefer, but that we hope that players will play it out regardless. To me, it would be the opposite of thinking, "I'll sign up, but I'll only play if I draw Mansa." Hopefully players will give it a shot regardless of who they draw, and they might even learn something new as a result. |
