What is wrong with mountaineering ? None of the units in my case has the skill. I could help debugging it, but what kind of help is required ?

With many units now (in my mod) having increased movement, 1 point/square pathfinding would be actually useful. There would still be roads for double movement (unless the pathfinding change must affect roads too). Slow units would be best transported with ships.

Nono, that was another thing. You wanted to change the terrain cost for mountaineering - which I said was a slow, but easy work.

b0rsuk is reporting a bug. But, seeing that you made big changes to the exe, this bug can have totally different source, b0rsuk. I could spend half of my life to find something that does not happen regularly in normal game. So, don't expect a fix here...

My bad, that's what I meant.

Btw Orc Warrior (mountaineer) + Sprites (forester) = pathfinding. And with all units having 2 moves, they get to move 4 squares. I don't think this one is a bug.

Ok, I somehow missed Mountaineering on Orc Warrior.

Catwalk, it doesn't add up. Mountaineer + Forester != Pathfinding. Both abilities are supposed to reduce movement cost to 1, not halve it. Even if it halved movement costs, then it should be 8 not 4, because lizardmen have swimming (river discount). Okay, suppose the abilities halve movement costs. Then why you get 4x speed when having both FOrester and Mountaineer, but no 2x if you have one of them ?

Well, you do in fact get pathfinding when combining a mountaineer with a forester smile You can check by the movement icon for the stack. Might be undocumented, but it does work this way. Whether it should or not is another matter.

I just looked it up.
In the original game manual it says that with Forester, Mountaineer and Pathfinding all stacked units get 1MP/square for land-based terrain.

In the 1.3.1 readme they only mention a change in Pathfinding:
README patch 1.3.1 Wrote:- Pathfinding allows all units within the stack to move on land
squares as if they were roads.

And in Dan Simpson's FAQ in 2005:
Dirk Pellett Wrote:Instead of showing Pathfinding skill for Rangers in the city display, it
shows Forester and Mountaineer. Granted, those two abilities in the same
stack gives the stack Pathfinding, but the game is capable of showing the
right skill icon for Rangers that already exist, why not in the city, too?

And by the way, how does having Mountaneering plus Forester manage to make
a unit go through SWAMPS eight times faster? And where is the "path" to be
found on the ocean waves, for walker-walking pathfinding units?

I guess we have a couple of bugs here! :wakka:
Does any"one" feel like fixing them?

Interesting that it is not mentioned anywhere! Even OSG says something like: "try to add units with forrest walk and mountain walk (or better still with pathfinding) to your walking stacks". A pleonasm at its best. You may go south, or, even better, southwards.

I really do not know if it was unintended, though. The way you see war bears (forr_w) and Stone Giants (mount_w) accumulated in Nature, it seems they wanted us to explore it - and then they made it just stronger (because it was poor). And notice the Brax case, the guy has nothing but his love for mountains - which probably should have been the hit.

Anyway, I cannot remove it in Insecticide. It has become a feature of the game, clearly. - Great story.

How did you find that reference in OSG? I checked it too of course, but I couldn't find any reference to either Forester, Mountaineer or Pathfinding. And I do not have a searchable file version of the OSG. What page is it mentioned anyway?

Page 182.

Tip: I use "List of tables" just before chapter 1 for quick orientation in the guide, when I can't find something in the Index. It works beautifully.

Yes, they probably wanted us to use it instead of the Pathfinding spell.
